Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Wagga
The return of the Punters Guide has been getting results right off the bat, and, we are back again with another edition for the Wagga race meet. Let’s not hold you back any longer – dive straight into the punters guide!
Race 1 – HARVEY NORMAN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600m
Minnamosa is the short pirced favourite in the first, and, it is for good reason – best sectionals of all horses, sprints home hard, and is against a field that doesn’t really have the pace to stick once Minnamosa is wound up. Top chance. Dragon’s Blood is the next best here, Kayla Nisbet has been in great form of late, and has one of the best chances to unseat the favourite in the opener. Good speed and drawn well, ticks a lot of boxes here. Turf Diva is the value here, been a bit underwhelming in recent jumpouts, but, is getting the benefit of the doubt here today – should be able to place at worst against this field.
Top Pick – Minnamosa
Next Best – Dragon’s Blood
Longshot – Turf Diva
Race 2 – SOUND FITS 2018 WAGGA WHIZ 1000m
Stone Cold is the top chance here, Kayla Nisbet in the saddle is a big tick, and this horse is solid around this distance. Drawn well in this one and has the late speed to win this. You definitely can’t overlook the favourite in this one – Wanna Get A What. Last race is forgivable when getting into trouble mid race and then over racing in the mid parts. Has the ability here, and, a win could be on the cards. Value is in Miss Liffey, who is second up today – has a great second up record and Bensley returns to the saddle who has combined for six wins with the horse. Great value at these odds.
Top Pick – Stone Cold
Next Best – Wanna Get A What
Longshot – Miss Liffey
Race 3 – RON CROUCH TRANSPORT RIVERINA CUP 3800m
Thunder Road is desperate for a win, and, it will have every chance here today. Dropping significantly in class, getting form Sydney hoop Nick Heywood in the saddle and is in a very, very winnable race. Winner at track and distance previously, winner with Nick Heywood previously as well. Well positioned here on prior efforts. One to beat. Sir Ottavio is the best ride for Michael Travers here. Winner last two starts, stepping up slightly in grade and carries the top weight. Talented gelding, and drawn the rail, should ruin well. King Of String is the value horse in this race, run well over last few starts, before that, rather uninspiring efforts. Never tried at this distance – although, on prior efforts, it would suggest that this distance is optimal. Keep safe.
Top Pick – Thunder Road
Next Best – Sir Ottavio
Longshot – King Of String
Race 4 – WAGGA MARKETPLACE MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
Smart Remark presents the chance for a race-to-race double for Nick Heywood, and, don’t expect him to baulk on this talented gelding. Second last start – yet to strike second up – but, will have every chance here today. Has the ability to win this and is at peak distance. Quick Spin is the next best. Rate highly for this race, coming in on sound form, and edging ever so close to a win this prep. Hard to deny on prior efforts and will be right there as it should be against this field. Piper’s Reward is a strong runner with a powerful gait – which is a big plus on a boggy track. Expect to see Piper’s Reward sit towards the tail of the field and make a swooping run. Penza will need to time it perfectly to win here.
Top Pick – Smart Remark
Next Best – Quick Spin
Longshot – Piper’s Reward
Race 5 – COMMINS HENDRIKS WINTER HANDICAP 1400m
Man Of Peace is the form horse here today. Running on the back of some strong efforts recently and comes into a field that it has the speed edge on. Winner at distance and a winner previously with Miller int he saddle. Top chance here. Melberra Star is a definite danger here, the Nisbet factor on these rural tracks can never be overlooked as she is really on song at the moment. The horse itself has the speed and the ability late in the race to steal this one. Rhomlo has drawn the car park, but, will look to shift across and ride about midfield, with a bit of luck, Rhomlo won’t get caught too wide. This is the perfect set up here for Penza, who is always within striking distance at this level.
Top Pick – Man Of Peace
Next Best – Melberra Star
Longshot – Rhomlo
Race 6 – JOCKEYS MEMORIAL CUP BENCHMARK 58 1200m
Lion Of Africa can’t be overlooked, coming in with the best rating, strongest sectionals, and win under its belt over this distance. Has the squeeze barrier to contend with early but, will drop midfield and look to make a late dash. Yawkey Way has drawn terribly here, but, Nisbet will need a good start to utilise the mare’s strong early speed. Will push for the lead, and if Nisbet can get it, could be hard to track down. Il Gattino is the veteran of the race here, won over the trip, and, doing so again here wouldn’t surprise. Expected to run midfield and will push on late, needs some luck though.
Top Pick – Lion Of Africa
Next Best – Yawkey Way
Longshot – Il Gattino
Race 7 – KRISTOPHER GRAYDON JEWELLERS 1200m
Quantum Time is the best of the day for Bensley, winner previously on this horse over this distance, and, everything looks like that effort will be repeated here today. Form horse and drawn well. Expect a big run here. Yeldarb has drawn awfully here, another one that Nisbet will need to work on early in order to have a chance of winning – she can do it, and, if a bit of luck can happen for her, will be able to win. Readabeel is the best of the rest here and show sup at really good value. Penza is known for striking at wide odds in the last race of meeting slike this and, doing so again here would definitely not surprise.
Top Pick – Quantum Time
Next Best – Yeldarb
Longshot – Readabeel
