After a strong start to the Punters Guide it has hit a bit of a purple a patch. Expecting some improvement here today with a small race card at Lismore, with some stand out horses at the meeting.
Race 1 – LISMORETURFCLUB.COM.AU 3YO MAIDEN 1200m
Handful of untested runners in this one – but, we are going to go with the horse that has race experience under its belt, and has been ever so close on its last two tries, finishing third against better company. Mikuro is a classy Kuroshio filly trained by the Lees stable, who are very good with young horses. Expecting to see Mikuro get its first career win in this one. Hayburner is the next one to keep an eye on. Unraced as of yet, but, has McGuren in the saddle and only needs a decent start to be right in this one. Value runner here is in Eulailah, who has two races to its name, and, will be looking to go better than the third on last outing. Has the ability, but, will need luck.
Top Pick – Mikuro
Next Best – Hayburner
Longshot – Eulailah
Race 2 – THE NORTHERN STAR MAIDEN HANDICAP 1516m
Another tough race here of tired maidens – and none that have standout for, but, the one that has shown the most in recent efforts is Rothford, who has two minors in eleven starts, both coming in the last four races. Hellyer in the saddle is a plus, but, the horse needs to show a little more here, it is lucky that this race doesn’t have any genuine lead horses. Luke Rolls and Hologram are the next best here. Exceed and Excel horse yet to flex its pedigree, today could be the day is it is due for a good run, but again, not been overly impressive so far in career. Value runner here is Red Flyer who presents well today, and has been somewhat consistent without a win over last handful of runs. Could go close again here today.
Top Pick – Rothford
Next Best – Hologram
Longshot – Red Flyer
Race 3 – LISMORE & DISTRICT WORKERS CLUB 1200m
Almas maps well for this one, and should win with McGuren in the saddle, and will be our top pick for this one, but, if you are looking for a little more value than just above evens – Queen Of Kingston is a real smokey in this one. Impressive form before a spell, and, if can recapture some of that form here fresh, it could be enough to take this one from the favourite.
Top Pick – Almas
No next best – No third dividend
Race 4 – NORTH COAST PETROLEUM 4YO & UP 1200m
Savanna Jeune is the form runner here, coming in off a strong second last start against better horses. Drawn a wide-ish gate for this one, but, has jockey returning to the saddle from last up effort. One to watch. Next best here is Star Stryker. Last start ran on strongly for third and was beaten by a horse having a great race. Second up efforts previously have Star Stryker right in this one, having two minors from three attempts. Expected to do better here today. The value horse of this race is Dark Comedy. Ran on unrelentingly to grab a third last start, and, with a change it racing tactics here over a preferred distance, could lead from start to finish. If Dark Comedy does grab the elad in this one – has the motor to not give it up.
Top Pick – Savanna Jeune
Next Best – Star Stryker
Longshot – Dark Comedy
Race 5 – BOOK YOUR CUP DAY PACKAGE NOW 1516m
Howick is the pick of the race here. Impressive win last start and against a field that doesn’t present as good as last outing. Retains winning jockey from that effort and will look to replicate that success again. Drawn well and will be able to drop back behind the lead horses here. One to beat. Next best here is Polemic, it has been racing well and is overdue a win, second up form is the only question mark here, if Polemic can get over this hurdle of fitness, it will be right in the mix here. Grand Casadora is a real smokey in this one, winner at distance, beaten horses of this caliber before, and has a jockey in the saddle that knows how to win on her. Last run two weeks ago, fading away for fifth, better for that race here today and a win wouldn’t surprise here.
Top Pick – Howick
Next Best – Polemic
Longshot – Grand Casadora
Race 6 – LISMORE CUP THURSDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 1400m
Raymond Spokes is back on a familiar horse here today, one that he has won on once and come second on twice in three races. He is back in the saddle for Chateauroux here today – and the prospects look bright in a field that isn’t overly impressive. Bright prospects at good odds today. Next best here is the top weighted Red Wolf, who presents well after a good third last up. Leah Kilner is a young jockey you should have no problem backing here, and, will be able to bring the best out of Red Wolf, Red Wolf even at 75% should be too strong for this field. Dark Image is the best of the rest here in what presents as a value race. Dark Image scored a hard fought win last start and is positioned to strike again here today. Longer odds and has shown flashy speed in the closing stages previously Definite chance.
Top Pick – Chateauroux
Next Best – Red Wolf
Longshot – Dark Image
Race 7 – TAB.COM.AU CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m
The Ridge presents Matt McGuren the chance to bookend this race meet. Strong winner last start on return from spell, second up today and placed second up previously. Good strike rate at distance and will be able to hit the line hard again here today. One to beat. Granola State is definitely one to watch here dropping in class. Not the best at finishing races off, but, against a lower quality field of competitors will have every chance again here today. Royal Equiano is the best of the rest here. Form horse and most consistent, won at distance and placed at track and distance previously. Placed multiple times in class without a win as of yet, but, can get that elusive win here today.
Top Pick – The Ridge
Next Best – Granola State
Longshot – Royal Equiano
