Bet Chimps Punters Guide – 2018 Sandown Guineas

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia (2018 Sandown Guineas)

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

It’s Sandown Guineas day, which brings a sad close to the Spring Carnival and we have the best from every race with the Bet Chimps Punters Guide and, we are ready to go for the big card at the 2018Sandown Guineas. Looking for plays – we have you covered here. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – Thoroughbred Club Merson Cooper 1000m

Interesting race here first up with a good handful of untested and unseen runners. What happens in this deubtant races is a scattershot, however, following Redoute’s Choice first-uppers has reaped good rewards here, and, we are going to do that again here. Salina has drawn well, comes from the successful, Hayes & Dabernig stable, and gets the hot Mark Zahra in the saddle. Everything points in the right direction here and happy to have it on top at value. The current listed favourite, Salome comes in here as well. Ran well at the Valley despite not getting the win, the short straight didn’t help, gets a wide turn and a longer straight here and will be right in it. The Wow Signal is another sire that rarely produces poor fresh runners – and Wolf Whistle is one of those here today. Brett Prebble will be looking to return to winning ways, and has a chance to here at long odds.

Top Pick – Salina
Next Best – Salome
Longshot – Wolf Whistle

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 2 – Ladbrokes Sandown Cup 3200m

Azuro is the top horse in this race. Distance is what Weir has been building this horse up for and retains Ben Allen in the saddle who rode for a win two starts back at Caulfield. Last race can be forgiven due to track conditions, but, was still a strong showing. Expected to run hard today. Yogi can’t be discounted, but, has just looked lost on its last two starts. Finds an easier field here and the distance is definitely within the geldings ability. If it can find that fast finishing form, it can win here – just feel there may be too many races this prep. Doukhan may not be a longshot – but, it could be the value point at its current quote. Just failed to fire last start after getting stuck in traffic, will need to do better today – but, is capable of that.

Top Pick – Azuro
Next Best – Yogi
Longshot/Value – Doukhan

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 3 – Mrc Members Twilight Glow Stakes 1400m

Gotta Be Gold is the one to beat here. Coming in on the back of an eye watering 3.5L victory at Morphettville, gets Jamie Kah in the saddle, and has a track that suits. Drawn well, has the best top end speed in the race and should be able to lead comfortably. Will be up to the rest to play catch up. Next best here is Sweet Rockette, another trained and ridden runner on the day for Michelle Payne, and this one may represent the most value, decent speed and can sit in cover from the wide draw. Win wouldn’t shock. Jen Rules is a capable type at odds. Runs well at this range, despite not winning, but, hot jockey McEvoy in the saddle ticks a big box and, has the ability.

Top Pick – Gotta Be Gold
Next Best – Sweet Rockette
Longshot – Jen Rules

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 4 – Mypunter.com Eclipse Stakes 1800m

Bring Me Roses is the strongest chance here in a talented field of runners. Being a back marker will begin to suit around this time of the day, drawn awkwardly, but, will easily drop back to find cover throughout. Talented horse that should be the benchmark here. Mask Of Time is the next best here. Small field suits, will look for the lead early on and has drawn well to do so. At its best, can beat this field pretty easily, only red flag is the lack of experience at the track. This type of track really suits those that come from the back and have good engines, and, that is Tally to a T. The slight increase on the Hillside will make it a little more difficult for front runners, but, the sharp corners help close running lanes. The home straight however opens up nicely and has length for back markers to move – again, suiting Tally.

Top Pick – Bring Me Roses
Next Best – Mask Of Time
Longshot – Tally

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 5 – Kevin Heffernan Stakes 1300m

Rich Charm is first-up today after a 63-day spell. This is the type of track that suits a horse like Rich Charm, loves to go left, loves sweeping turns and open spaces, will get that here today and at its best – can beat this field by a length or more. Inconsistencies since winning streak are of concern, but, this is the race where it needs to show up, as it is capable of doing. Quilista is the type of horse that would come out, get the start, and never give it up. The little inclinations in this track are a cause for concern as Quilista is one of those horses that gives you rocks or diamonds. If she brings diamonds today – this field won’t come close. Taking a bit of a stab in the dark here on a once touted horse – that is Fuhryk. Will look to settle back of the pack early on, has shown incredible turn of foot early on in its career, comes in here slightly over raced, but, yet to show its best. One more chance here.

Top Pick – Rich Charm
Next Best – Quilista
Longshot – Fuhryk

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 6 – Araza Sandown Stakes 1500m

Fifty Stars is again, another of our top rated runners for the day, should be well under the $2 quote by the time it jumps today. Expected to run well and replicate success on last start. One to beat. Dollar For Dollar is a clear danger. The new Currie/McEvoy combo is going to be on show here after Jamie Kah went away from the stable. Dollar For Dollar is one of those horses that just gives its all every race, and, no different should be expected here. Real chance. Sircconi was horrible last start when failing to even come in the top eight. Has shown great speed previously against a similar field, but, will need to give an unrelenting performance here to beat the top pick.

Top Pick – Fifty Stars
Next Best – Dollar For Dollar
Longshot – Sircconi

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 7 – Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas 1600m

Proved us wrong last start, Ringerdingding is back again today, and, finds a much easier field than last time. Main danger here is Seabrook, who hasn’t really shown anything to suggest it can challenge another strong Weir runner here. Top chance. Seabrook is the next best here, drawn awkwardly, but, will be looking to get across in cover early on and sit near the rear. At its best has shown a good turn of foot and has won at this range. Track could be an issue here, as Seabrook has only every run well on flat grounds, the inclination on Hillside could be an issue. Secret Blaze is the best of the rest here. Ran on well for third behind Ranier last start and maps well here. Another that has drawn a little wide, but, won’t look for the lead and will look to slot in behind the leaders. Has shwon a good turn of foot previously and a win wouldn’t shock should the top pick find trouble.

Top Pick – Ringerdingding
Next Best – Seabrook
Longshot – Secret Blaze

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 8 – Quayclean Zipping Classic 2400m

Libran is great value here. Ran a decent race last start when finishing third behind Jameeh, finds a talented field of runners here, but, a run close to last effort will have the 8-year-old right in the mix here. Our Libretto went amiss last start – but, gets a second chance here after a solid prep that includes four wins. Drawn the rail, but, will relinquish the lead quickly and drop back to the rear 3/4 of the field. Has a good turn off foot, but, will need some luck on the rail to get through. Dal Harraild may not be a longshot – but represents value at current quote of $5 looking at how this race could play out. Will sit behind The Taj Mahal and look to make the favourite over race early on. Dal Harraild has should be able to win the tactical battle with McEvoy in the saddle and rates well here.

Top Pick – Libran
Next Best – Our Libretto
Longshot/Value – Dal Harraild

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 9 – Clanbrooke Racing Doveton Stakes 1000m

Written Choice just had a bad day out last start, over racing early on and never really being in it. Has been absolutely slammed by bookmakers for that run, but, happy too forgive here. Written Choice is a great horse, and, if it can regather form from before last start – is the best horse in this field. Will look to jump well and pressure for the lead early on. If Written Choice can dictate the pace of this one – its game over here. Bons Away rarely runs a poor race, was never in it last start when coming up against a far superior Osbourne Bulls. A run similar to last will be enough here. John McArdle is quietly having a decent spring, and, his runner, I’ll Have A Bit is one of the chances here. Mott has been hit and miss this season – but, I’ll Have A Bit is a good runner second-up, is second-up here today and will be right in this one.

Top Pick – Written Choice
Next Best – Bons Away
Longshot – I’ll Have A Bit

TOP PICK
Sandown Guineas

Race 10 – Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes 1500m

Zumbelina can be forgiven for last start when racing out of its depth and class. Convincingly beaten, and, drops back from that type of field here today. Drawn the carpark, but, that is of little importance at Sandown, as fields merge quick and rarely get caught wide on the turn. Has shown enough to suggest it can best this field. Will fall behind the lead pack early on and the Sandown straight works in McEvoy’s favour here. Our Crown Mistress will look to fly out to an early lead and dictate the pace of the race. If Zahra can get there, it should create a very fast and uptempo race. One of the top chances here. Value is in Spanner Head, who will jump out quick and sit on the heals of the lead pack, has shown a great turn of foot in transit and a win wouldn’t shock here.

Top Pick – Zumbelina
Next Best – Our Crown Mistress
Longshot – Spanner Head

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – 2018 Lexus Melbourne Cup

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

It’s Melbourne Cup day and we have the best from every race with the Bet Chimps Punters Guide and, we are ready to go for the big card at the 2018 Lexus Melbourne Cup. Looking for plays – we have you covered here. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – Bumble Stakes 1000m

Champagne Boom was a strong winner on debut last start, and, while stepping up in grade for the race, the field isn’t equal. While more runners can cause havoc when trying to find a seam to get through, Craig Williams has proven capable at doing so before, and, this is his race to lose. The More Then Ready filly is the next best here. Hugh Bowman has the ride and will be looking to ride midfield here. Reports suggest that Still Single possess’s a lot of late speed and will come close late. Value point here goes to Lankan Star, Nicconi 2-year olds are enjoying a successful spring campaign so far, and, another win here wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – Champagne Boom
Next Best – Still Single
Longshot – Lankan Star

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup 2018

Race 2 – Tab App Trophy 1700m

One More Try is where you want to be here. Linda Meech has produced her only two wins with this horse on softer ground, and, it is expected to be that way by the time this race starts. Shown great late speed and won’t have to do too much getting a great draw and can get in cover early. One to beat. Miss Siska is always dangerous. Likes to run near the lead, but, has a great turn of foot and is proven at this range. True chance. Lady Silhouette has drawn poorly, but, has a good turn of foot, and, the wide and long Flemington straight helps here.

Top Pick – One More Try
Next Best – Miss Siska
Longshot – Lady Silhouette

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 3 – Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy 1400m

Fifty Stars is getting the benefit of the doubt again here after missing the win barely on last two starts. Quality horse that just needs to take that one little step more to move into that upper echelon. Distance is optimal, poor barrier draw is a concern, but, the early speed will have the four-year-old get close to the lead and get a bit of cover, which only brightens prospects. Loves a bit of give in the ground, and will have it by race three. Mandela Effect and Dean Holland are 1-from-1 together, and, the Turffontein runner has a great strike rate at this distance (3 2-1-0). Expected to provide the competition here. Jake Noonan has the class dropping Masculino here, drawn well and is poised here. Great value, and, slightly over the odds. Possible value to be had here.

Top Pick – Fifty Stars
Next Best – Mandela Effect
Longshot – Masculino

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 4 – Ronald Mcdonald House Charities 2800m

Doukhan is the main danger here, winner at the distance, has one of the best long distance jockey’s in the saddle here, and finds a field with not too much late speed. Drawn well, will most likely drop off out of the gate behind the lead pack. Will need a bit of luck finding a seam, but, best horse in the race here. Ethan James is the value point here. Winner at the range, winner at the range with the jockey, performed well prior to spell, recent runs after return from the paddock have been uninspiring at best. But, if Meech can find top gear here, no other horse will keep up. Definite chance. Kellstorm is a bit of a smokey here. Great value, a winner over the distance, multiple winner on softer ground and running lighter than last winning effort over a similar distance. Expect a bold effort.

Top Pick – Doukhan
Next Best – Ethan James
Longshot – Kellstorm

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 5 – Schweppes Flemington Fling 1000m

Singular Sensation is an interesting runner here. Impressive first up on debut, then a winner during encore performance. First-up today, over a suitable distance, with a jockey who performs best on front runners. A lot of boxes ticked here and will go well. Fine Dane can’t be overlooked here either. Running consistently, winner over this range, and on softer going. Barrier not the greatest, but, will push forward in what maps as an up-tempo race. Nomothaj is another that can’t be overlooked. Unbeaten at track and distance, gets the consistent Crowley in the saddle and will prove a handful if it can get to the lead. Danger horse.

Top Pick – Singular Sensation
Next Best – Fine Dane
Longshot – Nomothaj

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 6 – Jim Beam Black Stakes 1400m

Top performing Smart Missile filly, Beauty is the one to beat here. Super impressive run last start against a softer field of runners. However, the track will be easier under foot here and that suits Beauty to a t. Best closing sectionals and, retains winning jockey from last effort. Hard to beat here. Jen Rules is one that can roll forward early on and put some speed in this race. McEvoy has the ride and he is one of the better tacticians in the saddle. Expect a bold run here. I’m So Sweet rounds out the field here. Shown plenty of promise with consistency between runs being the issue. Trend data would suggest it is due for a strong effort here, and should be included.

Top Pick – Beauty
Next Best – Jen Rules
Longshot – I’m So Sweet

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 7 – Lexus Melbourne Cup 3200m

Magic Circle comes into this one, with the best form over the distance, proven runner at this range, and, will prove hard to topple again here. Drawn awkwardly, but, will drop to the back of the field and not have too much of a hassle getting over. Will do well to not sit too far back as, Melbourne Cups are rarely won from the rear of the field. Corey Brown has his work cut out for him here, but, he has the best horse in the race that is in the best position to get this win. Avilius has proven himself in the lead-up to this race. Impressive winner two starts back, fending off Jameeh before falling to Winx last start. Distance is optimal, drawn well and will be able to get cover throughout. Just needs to not over race early on and will be right in this. Best Solution has shown the most in the lead-up to this race, only red flag here is the distance. The extra weight is a non-factor here and, is the best overall horse in the race – just the distance may cause trouble, needs to be included though. Marmelo fills out the top four here. Disappointed last Cup, but, has a chance at redemption here. The Morrison stables realised they did too much racing in the prep for the Melbourne Cup, and, this time they decided on coming in fresh. They know the horse can perform at this range, and must be included because the six-year-old horse can upset here.

Top Pick – Magic Circle
Next Best – Avilius
Longshot – Best Solution
First Four Includer – Marmelo

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 8 – Furphy Plate 1800m

Zahspeed was a cool winner last start when tearing to the lead at Moonee Valley and never relenting. Will find it a bit harder to run to the front and stay there this time, but, enjoys a softer track, drawn awkwardly, but, with a good jump, will be at the front and hard to chase down again. Stampede is unbeaten at this distance on one attempt. However, has won at the ten furlong marker and has a furlong less to travel here. Stephen Baster loves the Flemington track and will be right in this one despite the top weight. Tradesman is another that needs to be included here. Runs well first-up, enjoys the distance, and should find the field a bit more tame than last effort prior to the spell. Will look to run on the heels of Zahspeed here and challenge down the straight.

Top Pick – Zahspeed
Next Best – Stampede
Longshot – Tradesman

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 9 – Mss Security Sprint 1200m

Tversky has been in stellar form this prep – maintains an incredible 44% win rate and, is in a field where he can stay on the speed and still win. Shown great grit down the straight previously, and, another run like the prior four would be enough to win here. Trekking, despite a poor last-up effort, can be forgiven and given the benefit of the doubt here against a field that maps on the slower side. If Trekking can stay in pursuit of Tversky throughout, has the closing speed to win by a length. Outside value here is with Moonlover. In incredible form this prep, the three wins from last four were all super impressive and map well for this race. Definite danger.

Top Pick – Tversky
Next Best – Trekking
Longshot – Moonlover

TOP PICK
Melbourne Cup

Race 10 – The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes 1400m

Resin is the best way to get some money back if you are chasing your tail at this point. Unbeaten on softer going, and the track should be beaten and tenderised by this stage. Yet to test over seven furlongs, but, prior wins over the six furlongs suggest it shouldn’t be an issue. Buick is the right man for the ride and the two should prove hard to beat here. Spanner Head is always a danger horse. Jordan Childs is riding here, and, has ridden Spanner Head through in first previously. Distance is perfect and, hasn’t drawn great, but, not the worst. Has the natural ability to beat this field if at its best. Noire must be included with that inside barrier draw. Winner at the distance, but, not the class, despite dropping significantly. At its best, can beat this field, but, needs sharp improvement to do so, not completely out of it, and has earned respect here.

Top Pick – Resin
Next Best – Spanner Head
Longshot/Value – Noire

It has been a bit of a spell between Punters Guide publishings, but, we are back today, and ready to go for the big card at Flemington. Looking for plays – we have you covered here. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – Xxxx Gold 3yo Maiden Plate 1000m

Interesting race of runners here, Brazen Belle stands out here, despite the lack of racing experience. Debutante with good bloodlines that has been said to have a good set of gears over the short trip. Dunn rarely produces ineffective short priced youngsters. Taking on market confidence here.

Top Pick – Brazen Belle
No Next Best – No third dividend

TOP PICK
Ballina Punters Guide

Race 2 – Tursa Maiden Handicap 1000m

Magic Scent went extremely close to breaking maiden last start, instead, came in as the bridesmaid, but, finds a much easier race here then last. The shorter trip here helps, will push to the lead quickly and the short straight at Ballina will be a secret weapon here. Commandeering can’t be discredited here either, who should be fighting Magic Scent for the lead early on. Both have good early transitional speed to overcome wide gates. Commandeering looms as a threat. Uptooit is another that has good top end speed, and has drawn much more favourably and should challenge for the front spot. True chance and can win here.

Top Pick – Magic Scent
Next Best – Commandeering
Longshot – Uptooit

TOP PICK
Ballina Punters Guide

Race 3 – Ballina Fair Bm 58 Handicap 100m

Luke Rolls has the top weighter, Silent Statue here, and, will be carrying 62kgs, which is a concern, but, this horse is dropping significantly in class and, has drawn well enough to get behind the lead pack. Shown good turn of foot previously and, with a bit of luck, can break through and prove hard to catch. Invincible Tammy loves an uptempo race and will get that here. Expected to roll forward and compete for the early lead, and, with the short straight could be the value point. Leah Kilner is also having a great second half of 2018, and has the ride. Rocky Nugget rounds out the chances here, drawn a mid gate, and, will be another putting the pace into this one. Expected to be in the mix late.

Top Pick – Silent Statue
Next Best – Invincible Tammy
Longshot – Rocky Nugget

TOP PICK
Ballina Punters Guide

Race 4 – Thank You Reg Laurie Maiden Plate 1300m

Angel Of War has drawn wide here, but, has been racing consistently enough around this distance to be competitive here. Last start finished a close second (0.1L) and anything close to last effort will be enough here. Deep Blue Sea is another racing in form, and, an Ocean Park maiden is always competitive. Galloway returns to the saddle here after a strong effort last start, just not having enough in the tank to beat Spicers Peak. Sound prospects here. Givemeaminute could be the value point here and is at a current quote at double digits. Third two starts back reads well for this race, as it was against a better field of runners, and, at its best, can upset here.

Top Pick – Angel Of War
Next Best – Deep Blue Sea
Longshot – Givemeaminute

TOP PICK
Ballina Race 4

Race 5 – Tab.com.au Bm 66 Handicap 2650m

Skye Bogenhuber has been the quiet achiever at the moment, and has another top chance here in Stella’s Chance. Winner at only try at this distance and is coming in off a good win a furlong shorter than today. Maps well here and will be hard to beat. Blazing Cheers was a good winner last start over a furlong and a half shorter. Looked like a bit more leg room would suit, and is offered the chance to prove it today. Has the ability and will be close throughout. Shandaara is the best of the rest here. Got in the minors at only effort over this distance and, anything similar to that effort could prove value here. True chance.

Top Pick – Stella’s Choice
Next Best – Blazing Cheers
Longshot – Shandaara

TOP PICK
Ballina Punters Guide

Race 6 – The Mission @ Aquis Farm Class 1 1000m

Champagne Garden has had two first-up efforts and got in the minors both times, will be looking for one better here today against a very beatable field. Race fitness may be a question mark with a 149-day spell, but, quality enough runner to get the job done here. Inwithachance is as the name suggests. Winner last start at same grade, has an extra half furlong to deal with today, but, has the late speed to steal it late. Danger horse. Jameslea World is at a decent enough quote to warrant respect. Won at this distance and is doing well this prep, last two runs can be forgiven when getting stuck in transition and not finding openings.

Top Pick – Champagne Garden
Next Best – Inwithachance
Longshot – Jameslea World

TOP PICK
Ballina Punters Guide

Race 7 – Wardell On The River Hotel Class 3 1400m

Ryan Plumb has the chance to close out what could be a good day out here on Fanx. Fanx is a winner at this distance, Plumb has won twice in the saddle and finds a race that lacks any real chasing speed. Will shoot to the lead and prove hard to track down. Cyclone Path is a threat here. A stalker type that likes to sit just off the speed, if Fanx doesn’t put too much speed into this one, Cyclone Path could capitalise. Flinders Dragon rounds out the day here, Tegan harrison has a good chance to get the upset in the last and has a good strike rate with horses over $10 quotes but under $15 in the last two races at tracks in Northern NSW. Expected to go well here and a win wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – Fanx
Next Best – Cyclone Path
Longshot – Flinders Dragon

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Flemington

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia (Moonee Valley Punters Guide)

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

It has been a bit of a spell between Punters Guide publishings, but, we are back today, and ready to go for the big card at Flemington. Looking for plays – we have you covered here. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – The Carbine Club Stakes 1600m
Wild Planet is a clear danger in this one, and, with the rail being true today – it suits horses that are not going to be leading a little better. That wide turn down the Flemington straight will really open the field up for horses running behind the lead pack – this is where it comes down to closing speed, and Ranier has a slight edge over Wild Planet in this department, despite splitting races against one another – the one time that Wild Planet won – it was because Ranier got stuck for most of the straight and still only just missed out. Ranier will be too strong today. Of the others, value could be had in Secret Blaze, who will be running at the lead, and, if a gap is created has the ability to hold it.

Top Pick – Ranier
Next Best – Wild Planet
Longshot – Secret Blaze

TOP PICK
Flemington Punters Guide

Race 2 – Mumm Wakeful Stakes 2000m

Verry Elleegant is where all the money is today currently. So, with the amount of money backing this horse – it wouldn’t be a shock if it loses – however, it won’t. Another one of the Weir standouts this spring, keeps John Allen in the saddle who managed to just scrape the win out last start. Expecting to see another close finish here as there are a lot of even horses in the speed department here, but, Verry Elleegant heads the list. Next Best will be El Dorado Dreaming, who was a little disappointing last start, but, will be better for the fitness. Will go close. The value point in this race will be Tysonic, who has been very easy on the eye last two starts and makes first trip to the ten furlong marker. Previous efforts suggest it should handle it and current listed price is good value.

Top Pick – Verry Ellegant
Next Best – El Dorado Dreaming
Longshot – Tysonic

TOP PICK
Flemington Punters Guide
Race 3 – The Tab Stakes 1200m

Runson is the quickest horse in this race, with a ton of early speed, and enough speed through the middle stages, this horse is going to be extremely hard to beat if at its best. Osbourne Bulls is the next best here that has some serious closing speed that could be enough to catch Runson if able to get the lead. However, the awkward barrier for Osbourne Bulls will mean a very wide run to come home, the Flemington straight is long, which helps – but, Runson is in a world of his own at the moment. So Si Bon can fill in the exotics here, as a former top level runner dropping back to a beatable class.

Top Pick – Runson
Next Best – Osbourne Bulls
Longshot – So Si Bon

Race 4 – Lexus Stakes 2500m

Craig Williams and Sixties Groove are a strong duo here. In impressive form, and last start win was a good enough indicator to suggest a competitive effort again here today. Against better horses here, but, a definite chance and value at listed quotes. Jameeh is another horse that is full of potential, which showed in last start win with Zahra as the jockey. Distance a non issue here, as longer the better it seems for Jameeh. Value point here goes to the Waller trained and McDonald ridden, Brimham Rocks. Impressive type that is always close. Win wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – Sixties Groove
Next Best – Jameeh
Longshot/Value – Brimham Rocks

Race 5 – Coolmore Stud Stakes 1200m

Zousain was gallant in defeat last start when just losing by a whisker to standout young gun, The Autumn Sun, this reads well for this race, as all the late speed will be with Zousain. Written By will likely say, catch me if you can – which is definitely something that Zousain is more than capable of doing. The value marker in the race should the top two fail, will be with the Lean Mean Machine, who will likely put in a flashy finish chasing the lead horses. This race will have a lot of late speed, and, if Written By hasn’t built a strong enough lead – he could be in trouble from a strong group of swoopers.

Top Pick – Zousain
Next Best – Written By
Longshot – Lean Mean Machine

Race 6 – Empire Rose Stakes 1600m

Invincibella has drawn poorly for this race, however, will enjoy the long straight as shown when winning at this track two starts back, with the winning jockey riding again today. Loves racing at Flemington and is yet to do worse than a top three finish. Has the best closing sectionals and should prove hard to beat here. Oohood was an impressive winner two starts back against some classy horses, an effort similar to that, and, it could prove value at current listed quote. Williams has opted for Oohood over Amphitrite in this one – and, surprisingly so. Despite others being favoured here, Amphitrite just can’t be denied, these absolute bullet runs from the back of the field to steal wins is becoming a bit of a trademark for this filly. Expect the same again here today.

Top Pick – Invincibella
Next Best – Oohood
Longshot/Value – Apmhitrite

Race 7 – Aami Victoria Derby 2500m

Thinking Big’s last win was super impressive, the question remains to be answered if that type of run can be sustained over this distance, as it wil need to be against a field of classy horses that enjoy late runs. One that looms as a real danger here is Stars Of Carrum, who sustained a long push to get the win by a small margin at the Valley last start. Stars Of Carrum looked to be able to push on further when winning that race which reads well here. Extra Brut can be forgiven for last run when just get caught in transit and never really being able to find a way through. Will have a wide barrier draw but, will look to sit behind the lead horses in a more favourable position. Has shown a good turn of foot previuosly and will be right in this one.

Top Pick – Thinking Big
Next Best – Stars Of Carrum
Longshot – Extra Brut

Race 8 – Kennedy Mile 1600m

Land Of Plenty ticks a lot of boxes here today. Flemington with a true rail is a dream for back markers, Land Of Plenty fits that bill and has shown exceptional turn of foot so far this spring. Expecting another big finish here from the Weir runner. Main danger here is Cliff’s Edge, who will, like always push for the lead and dare the rest to catch up. If Yendall can make a slip at the right time, Cliff’s Edge may have too big a lead to track down. Value point in this race sits with Hartnell, who, at his best, can beat this field with relative ease – the only question mark with Hartnell these days, is if he is interested in doing so. Showed he still can produce his best though.

Top Pick – Land Of Plenty
Next Best – Cliff’s Edge
Longshot – Hartnell

Race 9 – Furphy Sprint 1100m

From Within is look for five straight here today – finds decent competition from I Am Excited. From Within is proven at this range and has shown a great turn of foot this prep. I Am Excited too, has also shown good agility over the closing furlong, but, a slight edge goes to From Within. Massive value today is in Showpero, who was impressive when winning at Balaklava last start, and, despite a considerable jump in grade – should be competitive here at current listed price of $81.

Top Pick – From Within
Next Best – I Am Excited
Longshot – Showpero
