Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Wyong

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns after a big day yesterday at Rockhampton. We have a few competitive races at Wyong today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – SENPOS CG&E MAIDEN PLATE 1200m

This is a good spot for the Snowden prepared runner, Shinju. Made a really eye catching run when finishing third last start fighting on late. Should find the going easier today. Rectitude out of Sepoy is an interesting runner here. Would want to find a little more heart when trying to close out races, missing the line last start when first through majority. Can break maiden here. Corey Brown isn’t here to carry water today, and his ride Alcatran could be the value point in the race. Fourth on debut and only better ofr the experience. Can get the win here.

Top Pick – Shinju
Next Best – Rectitude
Longshot/Value – Alcatran

TOP PICK

Race 2 – BIOCHEM WATER F&M MAIDEN PLATE 1200m

Corey Brown has his best of the day here in Prophet’s Thumb, who is having its first run today, trialed well with Brown and is going to be pushing forward early. Has shown good late speed in trials, and, can win this. Lucky Helmet was disappointing on debut, but, has trialed well since, finished second in last jumpout, but, hasn’t been on track for over 150 days. Rest may have done it a world of good. Fine Behind has been disappointing while not breaking its maiden, best run came here at Wyong two starts back, but, can find its best here in this small field. One of the chances.

Top Pick – Prohpet’s Thumb
Next Best – Lucky Helmet
Longshot – Fine Behind

TOP PICK

Race 3 – HC GROUP BM 64 HANDICAP 1600m

Panzerfaust is the best of the day here. Odds currently sit above evens, but, expecting the odds to be crunched well under the $2 mark before jump. Best form, significant class drop and the one to beat here. Top rated. Ardanza also drops in class here today and is among the dangers here, lead up form not too great, but, will find this easier. Cinderconi was a good winner tow back, but, was against a stronger field. Will find the going tough today, but, can win this.

Top Pick – Panzerfaust
Next Best – Ardanza
Longshot – Cinderconi

TOP PICK

Race 4 – BISHOP COLLINS ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 2 1200m

So You Think has a good list of G1 winners to his name – and while Intrinsic is not one of those, it can get the win here today for Bowman and the Lees stables. Last up effort was rather unimpressive, but, is getting the benefit of the doubt here second up. Should be fitter and gets its chance. Lady Of Shallot has drawn perfectly for this one, will get the gun run throughout, will look to run at or near the front and can steal this. Inanup has won first up previously, and is first up here today. Drawn a mid gate, but, can push through to get near the lead. One to watch.

Top Pick – Intrinsic
Next Best – Lady Of Shallot
Longshot – Inanup

TOP PICK

Race 5 – THE DOYLO SPRINGTIME BM74 HANDICAP 1100m

This one is going to be considered the lock of the day here, but, there is no value in it – other than you get more betting on it than you would with bank interest. At very short odds at time of writing, Smart Melody is where the Smart money goes today. Best ride of the day for McEvoy today, and should win by 2 or more lengths. Rory Hutchings has the next best here in Americana Magic. Impressive winner last start, carrying a bit of weight, but, if Smart Melody gets caught, Americana Magic is the next best option. Jericho represents some value in this one if the prior two fail to fire. Winner first up and first up today. Right distance and can win with some luck.

Top Pick – Smart Melody
Next Best – Americana Magic
Longshot – Jericho

TOP PICK

Race 6 – MONA LISA STAKES 1350m

Shumookh is another of the short odds runners with a bright outlook today. Dropping in class, but, a real chance fresh today. Winner first up before, yet to go unplaced at this distance and should be right in this. Savatiano is another that has a good strike rate at the distance and has won twice when first up. Hard to look past in this spot. Milseain is the value runner here, horrible first up, finishing dead last in fourteen. Second up record is something to perk the eye at, and, with a bit of luck, can shock here.

Top Pick – Shumookh
Next Best – Savatiano
Longshot – Milseain

TOP PICK

Race 7 – CARLTON DRAUGHT WYONG GOLD CUP 2100m

Morton’s Fork ran on really well at the Valley last start and, finds a similar group of runners here. Will look to drop into the middle of the pack and find a seam late. Has the best turn of foot in the race, and, if it can get loose, will be hard to hold out. Carzoff has been disappointing since returning from spell, but, is being given benefit of the doubt here today. At its best, can beat this field – but, hasn’t shown its best for a while. Dark Eyes at double digits could be the value runner here. Impressive runner that can go the distance, being a winner at distance and class previously. Has every chance here today.

Top Pick – Morton’s Fork
Next Best – Carzoff
Longshot – Dark Eyes

TOP PICK

Race 8 – HUNTER PETROLEUM DA VINCI BM 66 1300m

Morpheus is great value at the time of writing. From the in form Newnham stables, has James McDonald in the saddle, and will still have residual fitness for this run. Expect a bold showing. Nuke and James Innes Jr really announced themselves last start with an eye catching win, really impressive to kick then dig deep to hold any swoopers at bay. If Morpheus doesn’t win today – Nuke most certainly will. So Bizarre is a value runner here today. Winner at the track previously, but, needs to improve at the six and a half furlong trip. Can do that today and be right in it.

Top Pick – Morpheus
Next Best – Nuke
Longshot – So Bizarre

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Marwillumbah

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to form, nailing back-to-back quaddies last week. After a small break the last two days, we have a few competitive races at Marwillumbah – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – SOLO RESOURCE RECOVERY CLASS 2 1530m

Tough opening race here, with a couple of key runners looking better than the rest, including an surprise appearance by Queensland jockey, Jim Byrne. Dunn is enjoying a great season so far, and, Mother To Race Her looks like another winner for him here today in this small field. Expected to run on the heels of the lead horses and then bolt home over the closing stages. Has the ability here. Main danger here comes in the Matt McGuren mount – Wainui Gold, who is a strong performer at the distance and has strong sectionals suggesting it will be one of the top sprinters in the closing stages. Airlie Man is the value runner in the race here, who is a little over the odds based off last performance, something that can be easily replicated in this smaller, less speedier feild. Expect a bold run.|

Top Pick – Mother To Race Her
Next Best – Wainui Gold
Longshot – Airlie Man

TOP PICK

Race 2 – BRIMS CONCRETE – EVA SMITH MAIDEN 1200m

Another tightly contested small field of runners here, but, we are going with the untested, Pirlo to get the win here. Trial form with todays jockey is strong, finishing a close second to the speedy Hayburner at Ballina. Expected to run on the pace today, in a race that figures to have genuine pace. Drawn tricky, but, doesn’t need to overwork early due to the small field. Main dangers comes in Rock’n’roll Music, who is first up today.

Top Pick – Pirlo
No next best – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 3 – AUSTRALIAN BITUMEN SERVICES 1200m

Again another small field of runners here that looks to be another tightly contested race. Expecting to see Portuguese Tart jump well and sit behind the lead horses, likely to be headed up by Pundit, who will bring the early speed into this one. However, Portuguese Tart won well over this distance at Doomben in a field of better horses and, figures to repeat that success here despite last two starts being very, very unimpressive. Duke Of Frederick would have gotten the nod here if he had a run under his belt, but, comes into this one a little cold, and, may struggle due to the lack of fitness after a 166-day layoff. Has the ability if at its best. Pundit is the value horse here, drawn well, has bundles of early speed and, if Pundit can dig deep and hold its expected lead throughout, can win this.

Top Pick – Portuguese Tart
Next Best – Duke Of Frederick
Longshot – Pundit

TOP PICK

Race 4 – CUNNINGHAM VALUERS MAIDEN PLATE 1530m

Hayburner did everything right on debut, except for winning. Has a bigger field to contest with here today – but, has drawn the rail run today, and will be able to sit in cover throughout. The speed horse of the race over the closing stages and, a race similar to last effort should be good enough to win this one. Indian Rocks is the next best, running a close second to Red Flyer is a good form line, and it was a loss by not even a length. A horse that likes to be in front, and, if Tegan Harrison can get tot he front and dictate the pace, could be hard to track down. Twilight Flyer has not had a great deal of success in its career, but, is suited by this race and will be one of the lead horses on a track that favours front runners. Has every chance today.

Top Pick – Hayburner
Next Best – Indian Rocks
Longshot – Twilight Flyer

TOP PICK

Race 5 – MURWILLUMBAH CELLARS BM 58 1100m

Reigning Thunder is worth a shot here, even with apprentice jockey, Jed Hodge in the saddle. Significant drop in class here today and, has every chance against this field in what is truly an open race. Being dropped in class and running second up here and will be better for the race fitness form last race. Expect a bold run today. Limited is the next best here, an most of that confidence comes from having Ryan Maloney in the saddle who has become the hottest jockey in Queensland after moving north. The horse comes into this one with plenty of speed and is one of the top chances here. Paroo River is the value horse here, form lines aren’t overly impressive, but, it matches up to all runners here, and has a good second up record. One of the chances.

Top Pick – Reigning Thunder
Next Best – Limited
Longshot/Value – Paroo River

TOP PICK

Race 6 – TURSA NEWMARKET HANDICAP 1200m

Sunset Hills is going to be the lead horse in this one, drawn well and can get to the front quick. Showed great resolve when leading from gate to post two starts back on a very heavy track, seems to produce its best on the heavier going – but, is on firm today, which could be an issue. However, sectionals favour the 8-year-old here and, if it can dictate the pace of the race, will be very hard to track down again. Powerful Saga is the next best here, winner at track and distance three starts back and has winning jockey form that effort. Must be included. Charlie Cat put in a great effort two starts back when stealing the win from the much more fancied Dansez. Last start was racing out of its depth as a $31 chance, and ran to that value. More competitive here today and a win wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – Sunset Hills
Next Best – Powerful Saga
Longshot – Charlie Cat

TOP PICK

Race 7 – RIVERVIEW HOTEL MURWILLUMBAH CUP 1530m

Bodega Negra is the surprise pick here. The last time it won earlier in the year, it was a similar field to this, at the same odds, with half a furlong extra to run. Here today, it has a little less distance to hold the elad over. Will look to push forward early on and try to get the lead, there will be others vying for it however. Bodega Negra has performed its best when it has gotten a hold of the lead. Dropping in class today for this race and a win definitely won’t surprise. Hotel Coste was impressive last start, despite falling short of the win. Has a very similar opportunity here today and will be better for the last race. Retains jockey from that effort and will be close again today. Future Event can’t be looked past here. Impressive record over the distance, getting an upgrade in the saddle and is ready to peak here. Good odds and should come close.

Top Pick – Bodega Negra
Next Best – Hotel Coste
Longshot – Future Event

TOP PICK

Race 8 – JH WILLIAMS TYGALGAH CUP – BM 66 2020m

Rallier was impressive last start when winning – jumps sharply in distance today to test the ten furlong range for the first time, but, last start win by a length showed that it had more left and would appreciate the extra distance. Best of the day for Plessis, and, won’t want to squander this chance. Next best here is the Jim Byrne ride in Pegapus. 5-year-old yet to strike at this distance, but, has a good record when dropping in class, and has that edge again here today. Tempa Mental is the best of the rest here, winner at a similar distance, last start was disappointing, but, can find its best here.

Top Pick – Rallier
Next Best – Pegapus
Longshot – Tempa Mental

TOP PICK

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Newcastle

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to where it was rebooted not too long ago – the Canterbury race track. With some small fields, and a few competitive races – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Backing up from a big day yesterday, including a quaddie win at Canterbury.

Race 1 – HUNGERFORD HILL WINES CG&E CLASS 1 1500m

Salsa Man is the one to be on here. While Bobbio and Triumph Star are clear dangers, Salsa Man has the most upside in this small field of competitors. Dropping in class and will look to ride just off the lead group, has shown a good turn of foot when winning previously and this distance is optimal. Expect a bold showing. Triumph Star and Andrew Adkins are the next best options here, while Bobbio gets strong consideration, the weight claim for Triumph Star puts him in good steed here and will be competitive throughout.

Top Pick – Salsa Man
Next Best – Triumph Star
No longshot – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 2 – WESTFIELD KOTARA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500m

Tye Angland has his best of the day at Newcastle here with Song And A Prayer. Impressive type that is racing well, just yet to crack that maiden, but, has that chance here in a small but competitive field. Drawn the rail and expected to run just behind the lead group, good turn of foot and will be hard to keep out here. Next Best is Homework. The Angland v Ford battle will be a good one to keep an eye on today, and in the first two races, they both have some very capable horses, and Homework is no exception, ran on gamely for a tough second last start and will be looking to do just that little bit more here to get the win. Value runner here is Regal Capital. Rachel King is in good form at the moment nad gets a horse at wide odds that has shown that it can run on strong, and, in this competitive field, has every chance.

Top Pick – Song And A Prayer
Next Best – Homework
Longshot – Regal Capital

TOP PICK

Race 3 – ADVANCED PEST CONTROL MAIDEN PLATE 1330m

Art Of More continues the short price trend here. Tommy Berry in the saddle and placed third up over this distance previously. Last start second over the trip and, looked to be closing off strong only just missing the win. Less competitive field here today, weight not an issue here, and has a lot going for it here, top chance. Seeingisbelieving is the next best here, another of Angland’s top rides for the day, just had its chances increase with the early morning scratching of favourite, Semper Fidelis. First up today after a five month layoff, expect a strong run fresh here. Almerheri is the ebst of the rest here, and another Rachel King longshot here. This race became a lot more open with the above scratching, and, Almerheri has the ability to win this, was against much better competition on first two starts and should find this group a little better. Needs to show something today.

Top Pick – Art Of More
Next Best – Seeingisbelieving
Longshot – Almaheri

TOP PICK

Race 4 – SHARP ELECTRONICS GROUP CLASS 1 900m

Venture Capital has drawn a sticky barrier, but, with it being a small field, won’t have to work as hard to get into a favourable positions. Bullock likes the Newcastle track, and, has his best ride of the day here on Venture Capital. Yet to show its full potential, and, if today is that day – could put this field to rest in the last furlong.

Top Pick – Venture Capital
No next best – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 5 – AUSTRALIAN BLOODSTOCK 3YO MAIDEN 900m

Another top chance here from Tye Angland on the untested Happy Bubbles, who has drawn well and by all accounts will look to push forward and dictate the pace of the race. The Ryan stables have indicated that they are extremely happy with the way Happy Bubbles has progressed and are really confident in what it will be able to do today. Expect a big run on debut. Main danger here is in the Lees trained runner Evalina, first up today after a promising debut, then spell. Should have the residual fitness here to remain in this. Another danger horse could be the Godolphin runner – Watching, but, two starts back, no excuses to offer and ran poorly down the straight. Hard to accept as a winning chance after that effort.

Top Pick – Happy Bubbles
Next Best – Evalina
Longshot/Value – Watching

TOP PICK

Race 6 – MACKA’S SAND & SOIL MAIDEN PLATE 1850m

Stage Pass has been right on the mark all prep so far, and, has its best chance to break through here today. Drawn the rail and expected roll forward early and dictate the pace of the race here. Failed to hold on thus far, but, with a slower tempo approach can go the full length here in the lead. My King’s Counsel has been doing its best work late, trying to swoop home late, would have got there last start with a bit more ground when covering a lot to finish fourth, will have the chance here with the extra metres. Shaodw Of Mordor is the best of the rest here, great value at double digits and has was right there last effort when finishing off excruciatingly close with a late push by 0.2L. Can go better here and will be right up there again today.

Top Pick – Stage Pass
Next Best – My King’s Counsel
Longshot – Shadow Of Mordor

TOP PICK

Race 7 – YARRAMAN PARK STUD BM 65 HANDICAP 1850m

Another small but competitive field here where Scratches will be the one to beat, plenty of horses have been scratched form this race, but, Scratches has remained and has the best form leading into this one. The Waller runner was an impressive winner two starts back, and, last start can be forgiven when finishing fifth after running into traffic. Has a lot less in front of er here today and can hit the post hard. Belle Du Sud has been there abouts last handful of starts, has a smaller field which helps here, and less competitive opponents, can be tricky to gauge this horse at times as it gives 100% one run then 40% the next. With less in its surroundings here, expecting a strong finish. Happy Partner is the value runner in this race. As said before, Penza loves to strike at North Coast tracks late in the day with horses over $10 and Happy Partner actually maps well for this one. Impressive third over a similar distance in a similar group of runners last up – and this duo will be better for it. Win won’t surprise here.

Top Pick – Scratches
Next Best – Belle Du Sud
Longshot – Happy Partner

TOP PICK

Race 8 – NATIONWIDE SUPER F&M CLASS 1 1500m

This last race is possibly the trickiest of the entire meet, a strong list of runners and a favourite that is extremely unpredictable. However, we aren’t going to go with the favourite here and we are going with the standout from the Lees stable in Sunreel. Strong winner last up, blowing the field away by a strong 1.5L, looking like it would have done an ever bigger margin had there been more room to run. Goes up a furlong and a half on winning effort, and, is a definite contender here. Value runner of the day. Velocano is one that you can’t look past here either. Strong form and gets Rachel King in the saddle, who placed in a competitive race last start with the horse. Looking to go one better here today and there is nothing that suggests that it can’t. The Waller trained, Joy Forever was a strong winner last start at Hawkesbury over the trip, has a jockey change here today, but, James McDonald is no downgrade. Joy Forever has the pedigree and the proven ability to win at this trip. One to include in exotics here.

Top Pick – Sunreel
Next Best – Velocano
Longshot – Joy Forever

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Quirindi

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

After what can only be described as a dogs breakfast in racing over the weekend. The Punters Guide is back and looking to go big here at Quirindi. Let’s get stuck into this punters guide.

Race 1 – LIVERPOOL PLAINS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1450m

The opener here is a small, but ultra competitive field. The short priced favourite here is Chicoltin, who is about ready to win, but, we are going to go with Skye Bogenhuber and Red Braids here. Last up, Red Braids over worked a little which opened the door for Lady Chaflont to burst through and take the race, this time around, the field should make her press as much as that one did, and, Red Braids will have every chance to go one better than a second last start here.

Top Pick – Red Braids
No next best – No Third Dividend

TOP PICK

Race 2 – COFFEE POT CATERING MAIDEN PLATE 1600m

Kristenesen is the obvious pick here on form – but, looking for a bit more value than what Kristensen offers – the Greg Ryan ride, Laranta maps well for this race at value. Has run well at this trip previously gets a top Sydney jockey in the saddle and will be comfortable here. Laranta is the value pick of this race if Kristensen should fail to fire today. Myriads with Josh Oliver riding is another to look out for. Again, if Kristensen fails to find its best here, Myriads wil be given every chance as it enjoys the distance and the conditions suit.

Top Pick – Kristensen
Next Best – Laranta
Longshot – Myriads

TOP PICK

Race 3 – BROWNING MOTORS BENCHMARK 56 1600m

Gibbons has been hit and miss for the Lees stable at the moment – but, he has the chance to hit here on familiar ride, La Bieri Choisie, who comes in with solid form, history of winning at distance and has won with Gibbons in the saddle previously. Maps well here and if Gibbons is in form – will prove hard to beat. The Outcast ridden by Travis Wolfgram has drawn perfectly to upset the favourite here, getting the gun run on the rail, that it will use to push forward early from. Front runners tend to have an easier trip at the Quirindi track, which only increases The Outcast’s prospects. Another ride from Josh Oliver here that shouldn’t be overlooked is the 9-year-old gelding, Apache Lad. Dropping in class steeply, winner at distance and class previously. Conditions favour here and a win certainly wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – La Bieri Choisie
Next Best – The Outcast
Longshot – Apache Lad

TOP PICK

Race 4 – QPP MEDIA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m

Another race here that doesn’t really show much value for punters – One Invincible Cat is another under evens shorty here that looks hard to beat. Another of the Gibbons/Lees combinations again here today – and this one could arguably be the best one. Coming in with sound form and being right on the cusp of a win. Second up today and ready to win. For something with a bit more value and the potential for the upset, Sunday Special has been in equally as good form as the short priced favourite some could argue. Ran in second on last two, strips fitter third up here and looks ready to go. A definite chance here. Something at much longer odds, that wouldn’t surprise if it won, is the Graham ridden, Sticks’N’Stones. Drawn terribly, but, has the ability to overcome this and push forward. The Bernardini filly has a lot of potential that it hasn’t yet shown. Big run wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – One Invincible Cat
Next Best – Sunday Special
Longshot – Sticks’N’Stones

TOP PICK

Race 5 – QUIRINDI AUTO BENCHMARK 59 1000m

Comingle pulled up lame at the end of its last race, so, last placing can be wiped from the memory, been given time to rest and recover and, if can find its second-up form here, is better than this field. Won by a neck over a similar distance on a strong run, if healthy, is the top chance this race. Sister Joy is another to watch out for here. Unimpressive last start, despite finishing third, and time before that was even worse. However, if we track back three races, the jockey last rode this horse, they won impressively. Expected to track on speed here today, and, if Sister Joy can hit the lead, will be hard to beat. The best of the rest here is Mac’s Reward. Dropping in class here, and, has winning jockey return to the saddle. Back to poeak distance and, looks ready to strike.

Top Pick – Comingle
Next Best – Sister Joy
Longshot/Value – Mac’s Reward

TOP PICK

Race 6 – TAB.COM.AU BENCHMARK 67 HANDICAP 1200m

Mr.Bonjove is the ride you want to be on here. Rachel Murray is riding well at the moment, and the favourite Kettering, has been underwhelming since resuming every start. Mr.Bonjove is coming into this one with a strong form line, and the Hinchinbrook sprinter should be competitive again like it was last up. Expecting it to go one better than last start. Abberation drops significantly in class today for this race, and should go well. Yet to win first up – but has hit the minors on two of three occasions and a first-up win could be on the cards here today. De La Hoya is the value horse here. Another of the first-up runners here today, dropping in class, and you can never discredit a Lonhro horse. One of the chances here today.

Top Pick – Mr.Bonjove
Next Best – Abberation
Longshot – De La Hoya

TOP PICK

Race 7 – TAB WE LOVE A BET CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m

Best ride of the day here for the young Jake Hall in Mystic Splendour, yet to be out of the podium on first three starts, has a tougher assignment here today, but, more than capable of taking it up. Was odds on favourite when winning last start, and, eyeing off the double here is achievable. Winner at distance previously, drawn a tricky barrier and will do well to not get caught wide, will look to push up early to counter this. Finne Realta is the next best here, however, it another of the top hopes with a dreadful barrier draw, well wide to start. Another of the horses here that will look to start fast and get to or near the lead, will do well to not over race early. Expect a bold run. Value horse here is Seize Them All. First up today and yet to win or place in this scenario, but, drawn the rail and should get a gun run throughout the race. Will look to ride midfield in cover, and, has every chance to push on late.

Top Pick – Mystic Splendour
Next Best – Finne Realta
Longshot – Seize Them All
