Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Mudgee

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns after a big day yesterday at Morphettville – hitting multiple winners and the double. We have a few competitive races at Mudgee today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – CLUB MUDGEE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m

Humboldt is the form horse here, with Lonhro lineage. Distance is optimal as well as the field. Mitchell Bell rides today, only strengthening claims here. One to beat. Bella Pronto can’t be overlooked, jockey Greg Ryan is in outstanding form on the provincial tracks and looks well placed again here with the talented Bella Pronto. Chad Lever and Garros are the best of the rest here. Ran strongly just missing a win before spell, trialed well enough to suggest it is ready today. One to watch.

Top Pick – Humboldt
Next Best – Bella Pronto
Longshot – Garros

TOP PICK

Race 2 – ORIENTAL & WOOLPACK HOTELS CLASS 2 1200m

La Pont should be too good here. Dropping significantly in class, and, not receiving a large penalty for doing so only carrying 60.5kgs. Has the ability and gets Gibbons in the saddle, could be hard to keep out here. Tony’s Reward is drawn well here, has form jockey Greg Ryan and has shown great sectional speed in races leading up to this. Winner at the distance twice on five runs and adding a third here wouldn’t surprise. The value runner in this race could prove to be Harry New Shoes, good form line, not doing worse than second over last four runs and will be there abouts again. At its best, it can beat this field.

Top Pick – La Pont
Next best – Tony’s Reward
Longshot/Value – Harry New Shoes

TOP PICK

Race 3 – PARAGON HOTEL BM 58 HANDICAP 1200m

One Invincible Cat is the one to be on here. Last start was an very, very impressive win, retains jockey from that ride today, and, a repeat of that effort can be expected. This is an extremely talented horse and, maps nicely against this field. Snitzagirl is a clear danger to the top pick here. Has shown incredible closing speed previously and last start win was very eye catching. Has its work cut out for it today, but, can steal this one. Two starts back at Cowan, Atum was an eye catching winner, since then, dropped off last tow races in non-competitive fashion, gets a shot at redemption here and the in-form apprentice Robbie Dolan has the ride. Win wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – One Invincible Cat
Next Best – Snitzagirl
Longshot – Atum

TOP PICK

Race 4 – KELLYS IRISH PUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400m

Western Parade is one that stands out here. Impressive during third first-up last jump and, has shown equally good closing speed. Comes in nicely at the weights here today, getting a good edge on the odds on favourite here. Can get over nicely and hold its own here. Abberation can’t be denied here, best ride of the day for Chad Lever, who has stepped up his game of late. Winner at distance, but, untested at class. Has the ability. Black Platinum hasn’t won for quite some time, over twelve months to be precise, and, despite that lack of winning form, does map well for this race. Drawn the rail for a gun run, and, will look to get in the lead and dictate the pace, if Dolan can do this – could be hard to track down.

Top Pick – Western Parade
Next Best – Aberration
Longshot – Black Platinum

TOP PICK

Race 5 – 99 ON MORTIMER MAIDEN PLATE 1400m

Probably one of the harder races of the day here. The current favourite Helsun was just so disappointing on debut, that, it shouldn’t not be anywhere near as short as it is today – especially against a more competitive field. The one that does catch the eye here in the Michael Cahill ride in Our Celtic Star. The Star Witness gelding has the speed to close this one out, has drawn the rail and will be able to race as it chooses. Has the ability here. Silk Topper must be included here, in what is an extremely open race. Knocking on the door over its last two starts, Silk Topper enjoys the distance and will be right there again. Value here could be in the Bobby El-Issa ride, Miss Breffni. Strips fitter after rider two weeks ago, has been close previously and has the ability. A win wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – Our Celtic Star
Next Best – Silk Topper
Longshot – Miss Breffni

TOP PICK

Race 6 – XXXX GOLD MUDGEE MUG 1400m

Go The Gantry has shown enough that it is the one to beat here. Greg Ryan takes the ride here and has drawn a little wide, but, Go The Gantry has the early speed to overcome this. Expected to run on strongly here and is the one to beat. Jamie Gibbons has her best ride of the day here on A Magic Zariz. In equal company todya, and won at this class and distance previously, drawn well and has claims here. Legistation can’t be overlooked here today. Multiple winner over this distance against better competition at city tracks as well. Steps back here from those wins and is looking to regain some form after trying to run at shorter trips that didn’t suit. One of the chances here.

Top Pick – Go The Gantry
Next Best – A Magic Zariz
Longshot – Legistation

TOP PICK

Race 7 – RYLSTONE HOTEL BM 58 HANDICAP 1600m

African Guy was extremely disappointing last start, and, as such, the trainers have decided to drop the class and put the gelding at a favourable distance. Needs to run better today, and, will have every chance against this field. Rates well. Cuban Lass has run a few times over the last few weeks and, can only be better for it. Drops significantly in class here today and has every chance to get that win the old mare is hunting for. Will be right in this one. Not For Export is another that missed its chance as a favourite not too long ago, and the trainers are dropping it sharply in class here today. Has the ability here and a win wouldn’t shock.

Top Pick – African Guy
Next Best – Cuban Lass
Longshot/Value – Not For Export

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Dubbo

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns after a little break. We have a few competitive races at Dubbo today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – KENNARDS MINE SITE CG&E MAIDEN 1120m

Track conditions out west are not great, with a churned heavy 10. The opening race does feature some runners who are tried and tested on a heavy track, and the one that has shown the most promise is Matchfox. The classy Foxwedge runner has been there abouts at this range and has placed all three attempts on a heavy surface. Can make that step today. You can never look past a Your Song gelding on debut, in The Nutter, from what has been seen, this horse has a very powerful gait and shouldn’t be too encumbered by the track conditions today. Jake Pracey-Holmes has the value runner of the day here on What Diddy Say. Third and a fourth last two respectively, main question mark here is can he handle to the heavy.

Top Pick – Matchfox
Next Best – The Nutter
Longshot – What Diddy Say

TOP PICK

Race 2 – KENNARDS HIRE DUBBO F&M MAIDEN 1120m

In Good Health maps as the one to beat here and, the market reflects this. Last race was super impressive when flashing home for a second. Has a tougher assignment here today, especially to replicate that run on today’s churned surface. Will need to find that next gear to get it done here. Arnault is another to watch here today. Running in good form and will look to get to the front on a track that will have a front running bias. Expected to go well here. Have to include Maniototo in this one, the runner out of Street Cry should be able to make the step up in these conditions, drawn well and will look to sit off the lead horses. If the favourite gets into trouble, Maniototo could easily capitalise.

Top Pick – In Good Health
Next Best – Arnault
Longshot – Maniototo

TOP PICK

Race 3 – KENNARDS MINE LIGHTING MAIDEN 1420m

Stomp should have won its last race, but, ultimately fell short, has an easier group here today, biggest question mark for the mare here is the track conditions, untested on heavy. If she can find her best here, she will be hard to beat. Another untested on heavy here, is Gaze Beyond, interesting type that can hit the line hard as seen in last run, when coming from near last to finish a close second. One to include. Elusive Valley is the value runner in this race here, can mix form at times, but, in what can be an open affair here with a lot of midfield and back markers having a tough run due to track conditions, if Elusive Valley can produce the fastest of the back bunch, could get the win here.

Top Pick – Stomp
Next Best – Gaze Beyond
Longshot – Elusive Valley

TOP PICK

Race 4 – KENNARDS NEW ZEALAND BENCHMARK 66 1620m

Not For Export has been tested seven times on heavy and struck a place on five occasions. Last start can be forgiven when boxed out and faded on the straight. Not For Export will look to drop back early and then come on late, has the ability here. Assurity drops significantly in class today, gets the hot provincial jockey, Greg Ryan in the saddle, winner on heavy tracks previously and maps well for this one, could be the one to beat here. Another long value runner here for Jake Pracey-Holmes in Amare, who is coming in wtih the strongest form lines, but, is yet to test a heavy track. Unknown quantity here today, that, at its best, could upset here.

Top Pick – Not For Export
Next Best – Assurity
Longshot – Amare

TOP PICK

Race 5 – XXXX GOLD CUP SPRINT PRELUDE 1120m

Joey’s Destiny and Greg Ryan are going to be the benchmark in this race. Will look to push forward early on and dictate the pace of the race, if Ryan can get to the front in this one, will prove hard to track down on Joey’s Destiny. One to beat here. Kenny Succeed is one that can never not be counted. Has exceptional late speed, and will be challenging for the lead, the type of horse that can go gate to post. This one isn’t much of a longshot, or value runner, but, must be included, Molasses is coming in on the back of a poorly run fourth after an impressive win with Cavallo in the saddle. Can run midfield and use good turn of foot to win this. Must be included.

Top Pick – Joey’s Destiny
Next Best – Kenny Succeed
Must be included – Molasses

TOP PICK

Race 6 – NZ RACING & RUGBY BENCHMARK 58 1120m

Billy Bent Ear was an impressive winner last start, and, there is nothing to suggest it can not back that performance up here, retaining winning jockey here and at suitable distance as well as track conditions. Will take some beating here. The Arnold Schwarzenegger favourite here, Get To The Chopper is the next best, dropping in class significantly here today, and has the form to pull this one off. Expect a bold run. Little Bertie must be included. Retains winning jockey from last effort, and, going into only it’s third race in a beatable benchmark 58, if it can win here today – it is a must in the blackbook.

Top Pick – Billy Bent Ear
Next Best – Get To The Chopper
Must be included – Little Bertie

TOP PICK

Race 7 – NZ RACING & RUGBY BENCHMARK 58 1120m

Hoges is the one you want to be on here and is great value currently at time of writing. Trialed nicely behind Tim’s Principal over 900m in preparation for this race, and, last competitive race can be dismissed when copping interference being blocked for a run and fading out. Time before that super impressive win against a more competitive field than today’s. Top chance. Tibidabo is the next best here and going to be one of the main challengers to Hoges, may have even gotten the nod if not for poor history when running from wide barriers. Dropping in class and will have an edge, but, will need to find its best to win here. Eyesaw is another that must be included here. Good first up record, will look to run on the pace, and, will have every chance on this track.

Top Pick – Hoges
Next Best – Tibdabo
Longshot – Eyesaw

TOP PICK

Race 8 – DUBBO TOYOTA DUBBO CUP PRELUDE 1420m

Wild Cavalier is the picture of consistency at the moment, doing everything right, except for winning. Has every chance here today to convert that good form against a softer field than last. Will look to get near the lead and run on the pace. Can go on with it today. Bank On Henry is the next best here, coming in on the back of a sound performance with jockey, running in second on heavy track, and, finds a less competitive field than last. Can go one better. Moonlight Spy is the one that is a real dark horse in this race. Lightly exposed to the track, running here once for a place, last start second at long odds was an impressive showing, and, anything close to that here could be enough to win.

Top Pick – Wild Cavalier
Next Best – Bank On Henry
Longshot – Moonlight Spy

TOP PICK

Race 9 – DUBBO CHRISTMAS TWILIGHTS CLASS 2 1420m

Outta Space is dropping in class today and must be respected. Beaten a better field than is on offer here today – especially after all the top level talent being scratched this morning. Sergy Linsyy is always a difficult customer when it comes to closing out race meets, and this won’t be any different on this talented gelding. Main threat here is in Sure Shot Sheza. Drawn well and will look to run just off the pace setters here. Has a good turn of foot and will be right there throughout. Longshot value here goes to Tokyo Bullet, who has drawn well and will be able to run just off the pace in what maps as a slower race than expected now with the speedsters being scratched, which suits Tokyo Bullet.

Top Pick – Outta Space
Next Best – Sure Shot Sheza
Longshot – Tokyo Bullet

TOP PICK

QUADDIE FOR THE MEET

Race 5 – 5/6/7

Best Bet – Billy Bent Ear Race 6 @ $4.00 on BetEasy
Next Best – Stomp Race 3 @ $3.80 on BetEasy

Devonport

Race 4

With there being a bevvy of races on today – and one meet not having a good amount of standouts, we are going to do something a little different today as opposed to the Punters Guide, and list a few races with runners that tickle our fancy here, and the first cab off the rank is Devonport, where we are going to go with the impressive Blackberry Rose. Main concern here for Blackberry Rose and Craig Newitt is to not let Emsgem get too far ahead as Froggy did last time against this horse when riding Emceeoh. Blackberry Rose does its best when running on from the back of the pack and today’s race, shouldn’t be any different. Blackberry Rose will need to run closer today to get the win as Emsgem will look to bolt to the lead and not give it up. Another danger is Pontypaul who drops in class, but, Emsgem and Blackberry Rose are the top two chances in this one.

SELECTION

Race 7

Anthony Darmanian is great in Tasmania when it comes to the races after number five. This one is race seven, and he has the best of the day at Devonport in Husson Park, a runner with strong lineage from Husson. Came up against a horse that was in its own element last start in Red Pearl who destroyed the field, today’s field is a bit better of a match up for Husson Park today. Coming in on the back of a first and a second over last two respectively and yet to be lower than second at this track. Maps well for this race and has the best early speed for the short trip – will just need show a bit more fight down the straight here today.

SELECTION

Wyong

Race 1

Opening race here at Wyong maps as a two horse duel between Homework, who is likely to lead, and Elaborate who is likely to stalk. The edge here goes to Homework, who has looked better over the longer trip – finishing second over 1500m, against a better field, where Elaborate finished third against a weaker field, with a better jockey last start. Today, Homework has drawn well and will take up the lead again and challenge the rest to catch up – which if the run is similar to last, they won’t be able to. Jay Ford is going for his third ride on Homework today – and the two work well together, will be difficult for any other runner to win if Homework gets the lead.

SELECTION

Nowra

Race 4

Interesting little race here with a lot of attention going towards Chad Lever and Highly Desired, however, not enough is going towards Atomic Blast, who ran on gamely last start and gets an upgrade in the saddle to the red hot, Kayla Nisbet. Had every chance in the world last start to win over a shorter distance, but, the shortness of the trip was the issue, as it would have gotten there with an extra half furlong, almost gets that full extension here and will be competitive once again. Nowra has a very long straight, with a 400m line, which really helps Atomic Blast here who is over the odds.

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Newcastle

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to where it was rebooted not too long ago – the Canterbury race track. With some small fields, and a few competitive races – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Backing up from a big day yesterday, including a quaddie win at Canterbury.

Race 1 – HUNGERFORD HILL WINES CG&E CLASS 1 1500m

Salsa Man is the one to be on here. While Bobbio and Triumph Star are clear dangers, Salsa Man has the most upside in this small field of competitors. Dropping in class and will look to ride just off the lead group, has shown a good turn of foot when winning previously and this distance is optimal. Expect a bold showing. Triumph Star and Andrew Adkins are the next best options here, while Bobbio gets strong consideration, the weight claim for Triumph Star puts him in good steed here and will be competitive throughout.

Top Pick – Salsa Man
Next Best – Triumph Star
No longshot – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 2 – WESTFIELD KOTARA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500m

Tye Angland has his best of the day at Newcastle here with Song And A Prayer. Impressive type that is racing well, just yet to crack that maiden, but, has that chance here in a small but competitive field. Drawn the rail and expected to run just behind the lead group, good turn of foot and will be hard to keep out here. Next Best is Homework. The Angland v Ford battle will be a good one to keep an eye on today, and in the first two races, they both have some very capable horses, and Homework is no exception, ran on gamely for a tough second last start and will be looking to do just that little bit more here to get the win. Value runner here is Regal Capital. Rachel King is in good form at the moment nad gets a horse at wide odds that has shown that it can run on strong, and, in this competitive field, has every chance.

Top Pick – Song And A Prayer
Next Best – Homework
Longshot – Regal Capital

TOP PICK

Race 3 – ADVANCED PEST CONTROL MAIDEN PLATE 1330m

Art Of More continues the short price trend here. Tommy Berry in the saddle and placed third up over this distance previously. Last start second over the trip and, looked to be closing off strong only just missing the win. Less competitive field here today, weight not an issue here, and has a lot going for it here, top chance. Seeingisbelieving is the next best here, another of Angland’s top rides for the day, just had its chances increase with the early morning scratching of favourite, Semper Fidelis. First up today after a five month layoff, expect a strong run fresh here. Almerheri is the ebst of the rest here, and another Rachel King longshot here. This race became a lot more open with the above scratching, and, Almerheri has the ability to win this, was against much better competition on first two starts and should find this group a little better. Needs to show something today.

Top Pick – Art Of More
Next Best – Seeingisbelieving
Longshot – Almaheri

TOP PICK

Race 4 – SHARP ELECTRONICS GROUP CLASS 1 900m

Venture Capital has drawn a sticky barrier, but, with it being a small field, won’t have to work as hard to get into a favourable positions. Bullock likes the Newcastle track, and, has his best ride of the day here on Venture Capital. Yet to show its full potential, and, if today is that day – could put this field to rest in the last furlong.

Top Pick – Venture Capital
No next best – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 5 – AUSTRALIAN BLOODSTOCK 3YO MAIDEN 900m

Another top chance here from Tye Angland on the untested Happy Bubbles, who has drawn well and by all accounts will look to push forward and dictate the pace of the race. The Ryan stables have indicated that they are extremely happy with the way Happy Bubbles has progressed and are really confident in what it will be able to do today. Expect a big run on debut. Main danger here is in the Lees trained runner Evalina, first up today after a promising debut, then spell. Should have the residual fitness here to remain in this. Another danger horse could be the Godolphin runner – Watching, but, two starts back, no excuses to offer and ran poorly down the straight. Hard to accept as a winning chance after that effort.

Top Pick – Happy Bubbles
Next Best – Evalina
Longshot/Value – Watching

TOP PICK

Race 6 – MACKA’S SAND & SOIL MAIDEN PLATE 1850m

Stage Pass has been right on the mark all prep so far, and, has its best chance to break through here today. Drawn the rail and expected roll forward early and dictate the pace of the race here. Failed to hold on thus far, but, with a slower tempo approach can go the full length here in the lead. My King’s Counsel has been doing its best work late, trying to swoop home late, would have got there last start with a bit more ground when covering a lot to finish fourth, will have the chance here with the extra metres. Shaodw Of Mordor is the best of the rest here, great value at double digits and has was right there last effort when finishing off excruciatingly close with a late push by 0.2L. Can go better here and will be right up there again today.

Top Pick – Stage Pass
Next Best – My King’s Counsel
Longshot – Shadow Of Mordor

TOP PICK

Race 7 – YARRAMAN PARK STUD BM 65 HANDICAP 1850m

Another small but competitive field here where Scratches will be the one to beat, plenty of horses have been scratched form this race, but, Scratches has remained and has the best form leading into this one. The Waller runner was an impressive winner two starts back, and, last start can be forgiven when finishing fifth after running into traffic. Has a lot less in front of er here today and can hit the post hard. Belle Du Sud has been there abouts last handful of starts, has a smaller field which helps here, and less competitive opponents, can be tricky to gauge this horse at times as it gives 100% one run then 40% the next. With less in its surroundings here, expecting a strong finish. Happy Partner is the value runner in this race. As said before, Penza loves to strike at North Coast tracks late in the day with horses over $10 and Happy Partner actually maps well for this one. Impressive third over a similar distance in a similar group of runners last up – and this duo will be better for it. Win won’t surprise here.

Top Pick – Scratches
Next Best – Belle Du Sud
Longshot – Happy Partner

TOP PICK

Race 8 – NATIONWIDE SUPER F&M CLASS 1 1500m

This last race is possibly the trickiest of the entire meet, a strong list of runners and a favourite that is extremely unpredictable. However, we aren’t going to go with the favourite here and we are going with the standout from the Lees stable in Sunreel. Strong winner last up, blowing the field away by a strong 1.5L, looking like it would have done an ever bigger margin had there been more room to run. Goes up a furlong and a half on winning effort, and, is a definite contender here. Value runner of the day. Velocano is one that you can’t look past here either. Strong form and gets Rachel King in the saddle, who placed in a competitive race last start with the horse. Looking to go one better here today and there is nothing that suggests that it can’t. The Waller trained, Joy Forever was a strong winner last start at Hawkesbury over the trip, has a jockey change here today, but, James McDonald is no downgrade. Joy Forever has the pedigree and the proven ability to win at this trip. One to include in exotics here.

Top Pick – Sunreel
Next Best – Velocano
Longshot – Joy Forever

TOP PICK
