The Punters Guide returns after a good day yesterday, with multiple winners. We have a strong list of competitive races for the Swan Hill Punters Guide today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE
Race 1 – SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL 3YO 1600m
Baccarat Baby is the form horse of this race, Hellyer has won three form three rides on this Casino Prince filly, is at a good distance that it has won its only appearance at. Had a good trial in the lead up to this race and will be hard to beat again. One of the top for the day.
Top Pick – Baccarat Baby
No next best – No Third Dividend
Race 2 – BENTLEYS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS 2200m
Yesterday, the winner of this race looked like Raqeeq, however, as an early scratching this morning, the door has been opened wide to a handful in this race. Sir Barnabus gets the most benefit our of this early scratching. Ran impressively to grab third over last two trips at eleven furlongs, gets Cahill returning to the saddle again here today and will be hitting the line hard. One to beat. Exoteric is the next best here, experienced journeyman over the trip, with a handful of wins in the process. At its best, will beat this field, but, is very hit and miss on the track. Drops in class for a slight edge, but, will need some luck today. Sky One could be the value point in this one. Ran a strong minor over this trip, has hit a bit of a purple patch, but, McGillivray knows how to bring home a wide odds runner and he has that here. Expect a bold run.
Top Pick – Sir Barnabus
Next Best – Exoteric
Longshot – Sky One
Race 3 – VAE GROUP CLASS 6 PLATE 1200m
The Mechanic just seems to have clicked after its spell, running a poor race, then second-up has been lights out since. Jeff Lloyd seems to bring the best out of this horse, and, is running light today, and makes a small drop in class on last race. This field grades lower than the last and the late speed is with The Mechanic. Expect a bold run. Mathew Cahill gets his ride on Jungilized again here, who turned in an eye catching run last up at Canterbury. Expected to run on the pace here and, the red silk will be hard to miss here. True chance. Good Time Charlie is a good value point in this race, coming in on the back of two minors in two runs since spell, and, has shown great late speed. Will need some luck to beat the top pick here today, but, a win wouldn’t shock.
Top Pick – The Mechanic
Next Best – Jungilized
Longshot – Good Time Charlie
Race 4 – ROSTRON CARLYLE ROJAS HANDICAP 1200m
Since returning from a spell, Tversky has put in a strong body of work, bagging the hat-trick and all races against much better fields than what today offers. However, these smaller fields are always much trickier as it becomes more about strategy than it does the horses ability. Tversky retaining Smith here is a big tick in the right box and the duo will prove very hard to beat here. Main danger will be in Niccanova, but, Tversky is just too good right now.
Top Pick – Tversky
No next best – No Third Dividend
Race 5 – JLL PROPTECH CLASS 3 PLATE 1350m
Francisca has drawn awkwardly here, but, won’t push hard to get to the front, will instead look to slot over midfield and not get caught wide. Form line has been strong since returning from spell, not doing worse than third over three races, including a strong win two back. Winner at track and distance previously and gets the in-form Queensland jockey Ryan Maloney onboard here today. Expect a bold showing. Miss Quaintly can’t be ignored here as the young filly drops in class, runs very light and is coming in on the back of a super impressive win. Can go close with another effort like last. The Sepoy gelding, Raise An Army can’t be overlooked either. Ran well prior to spell, is first up here today, and runs well when fresh. Expected to be on of the chances, especially off the inside draw.
Top Pick – Francsica
Next best – Miss Quaintly
Longshot – Raise An Army
Race 6 – HERRON TODD WHITE HANDICAP 1050m
Ryan Wiggins combines with Bold Xavvi here, in what is a favourable race. Handy type that rarely runs a bad race, and, despite drawing awkwardly here today, will push forward and try to run with the lead horses. Race maps as an uptempo one and suits Bold Xavvi when it gets quicker. One to beat. Goldfinch can’t be overlooked either. First-up after a spell here and can go on with it today. Panya returns for the ride today, and these two have combined to beat better fields than today’s. Expect a bold run. The value point in this race is with National Trail, who has run in good form, and can test these here today.
Top Pick – Bold Xavvi
Next Best – Goldfinch
Longshot – National Trail
Race 7 – KESTREL SOLUTIONS HANDICAP 1600m
Prioritise is one to lookout for here, coming in on the back of two dominating wins, that could have been by more lengths had the foot not been taken off the pedal. Distance is right and this field lacks the top end speed to compete with Prioritise here. One to beat. Order Again can’t be overlooked here. Another of the form horses in this race, yet to do worse than second since spell, including a win first-up. Drawn tricky, but, will have the chance to ride midfield and turn the corner fast. Top chance. Value point in this race sits with Jaminzah, who has shown its best a handful of runs ago. Winner at distance, trialed well in the lead-up to today, and a win wouldn’t shock.
Top Pick – Prioritise
Next Best – Order Again
Longshot – Jaminzah
Race 8 – GADENS LAWYERS BM85 HANDICAP 1650m
Backslapper is one to not overlook today. Winner at distance, run on strong before, and will be looking to replicate prior success had over distance. Drawn well, gets Gallagher returning today, who turned in a strong second last start at Ipswich and may have won with the extra distance today is offering. True chance. Courtza King is the next best here. Form lines are strong leading into this one, doing fourth as worst over last four starts. Distance suits, and gets winning jockey back in saddle over optimal distance. Expect a bold run. Current trading favourite is expected to drift by race time, and, could be a value point. Has run well over the distance, including three wins from twelve goes. Reach For Heaven will get its chance today.
Top Pick – Backslapper
Next Best – Courtza Kings
Longshot/Value – Reach For Heaven
Race 9 – SURF LIFE SAVING BM70 HANDICAP 1600m
Madam Shazam chases four on the trot today, and, getting the gun draw on the rail, there is nothing to suggest that Sebring mare can’t do it. Ryan Maloney has the ride, and gets the edge dropping in class and running lighter than expected. Has work to do to win this, but, has the ability to win. Red Colour was robbed last start when having the win taken away on the post, will look to roll forward from the awkward barrier draw and will pressure for the lead. If Red Colour can get to the front and dictate the pace, it could pull of the win here today. Talented runner that needs a bit of luck. Value point in this one could be Foxy Affair, while not at huge odds at time of writing, at odds decent enough to suggest a competitive race. Gets winning jockey onboard from last effort over a similar distance. Will take holding out.
Top Pick – Madam Shazam
Next Best – Red Colour
Longshot/Value – Foxy Affair
