The Punters Guide returns after a good day yesterday, with multiple winners and missing the quaddie by half a head. We have a strong list of competitive races for the Kalgoorlie Punters Guide today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE
Race 1 – MOJO BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1560m
Very interesting race to kick off proceedings at Mackay today. The first race has one class dropper, however, this is a very open affair. There are three clear cut runners in this one, in Bawaardi Rocket, Wear The Fox Hat and Hyper Drive. Sonja Wiseman and Wear The Fox Hat ran a trial recently and it was rather unimpressive, but, knocked some cobwebs off headed into this one. The track suits, the distance maps suitable and being in the smaller field helps. Class shouldn’t be an issue and Wear The Fox Hat should be hard to beat today.
Top Pick – Wear The Fox Hat
No next bet – No Third Dividend
Race 2 – MACKAY CASINO NIGHTS 3YO HANDICAP 1560m
Another small field here, with another tightly contested bunch of runners. The duo of Justin Stanley and Tony Button has been very strong recently in Northern Queensland, and, there is nothing to suggest they won’t be able to pair up for another win here in this one. Kings County is a strong horse with a big motor and, if it can get to the lead from the wide draw, will be extremely difficult to track down. One to beat here.
Top Pick – Kings County
No next best – No Third Dividend
Race 3 – CHERYL GREEN TANNING BENCHMARK 70 1560m
A big opportunity here in another small field, for Justin Stanley to score an early race-to-race double here on Warwick Avenue. We have supported Mr.Boxvale many times of late, but, at his weight in this race, and the short back-up, Warwick Avenue has the edge here, who is dropping in class and retains winning jockey form last two rides. Expected to run well again today.
Top Pick – Warwick Avenue
No next best – No Third Dividend
Race 4 – COAL MINE SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m
That’s Anna is the standout here, untested over this trip, but, finishing well on debut and looking for more ground would suggest the Benfica mare is up to the task here. Les Tilley returns to the saddle here which only brightens prospects. Southern Special can’t be overlooked here either. Impressive over last couple of runs, and hits the right distance and class here. Has a good turn of foot, and, runs to last races standards, should be too good here. Thunder is the value point in this race. Yet to really show its best, as a fourteen race journeyman, this could be the time it makes that step connections have been waiting for.
Top Pick – That’s Anna
Next Best – Southern Special
Longshot – Thunder
Race 5 – MCDONALD MURPHY MACHINERY CLASS 3 1050m
Ryan Wiggins has his best ride of the day here in You Know The One, and, with the form of the horse, slight drop in class and turn of foot, will be right in this one. Wiggins won’t want to waste his best chance of the day, and, while there is a couple of horses that can challenge, it is the best horse in the field and, if ridden right, will be hard to beat. Sonja Wiseman has another challenger here in A Littlebitofmagic. Running light todya, and, making a slight jump in grade, has drawn a little wide, but, early speed compensates for this. One of the chances. Pietro Romeo has possibly the best value runner of the day here in Justflickinit. Currently trading well over the $50 barrier, has shown in its last race that closing speed isn’t an issue when at its best, and has winning jockey form that effort last-up here today. One to keep an eye on here.
Top Pick – You Know The One
Next Best – A Littlebitofmagic
Longshot – Justflickinit
Race 6 – SMART STATE VEHICLE RENTALS 1300m
This here is a great chance for Justin Stanley to complete his treble on the day with Friendly Dragon, who has drawn well, drops slightly in grade from last race, and, isn’t carrying an excessive weight. Has shown great turn of foot and, on the home straight, has the sectionals to suggest that it can beat this field. Top chance here. Ryan Wiggins has the chance for a race-to-race double here on the current favourite – Worthy Hero. Unimpressive last start when finishing third behind the top pick here. Has a weight advantage here, and, can go better. Grand Emperor, despite the massive weight, needs to be included. Has won at big weight previously and gets the chance to show that same grit from two starts back. Could be a value point come jump time, as many may be turned away by the 63.5kgs.
Top Pick – Friendly Dragon
Next Best – Worthy Hero
Longshot/Value – Grand Emperor
Race 7 – TAIT & CO CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS 1200m
Durif is the shortest priced runner of the day here, and, it is in a beatable field – that could give Ryan Wiggins a realistic shot at a hat-trick, provided he wins the prior two chances. Durif has drawn poorly, and, carries a lot of weight, but, is coming in fresh, and will need to do better than last first-up tries, failing to win on both occasions. Getting the benefit of the doubt here, and, a bold run is expected. Jabrook is the next best here. Winner last start and won well. Drawn well, and will look to move forward early from the good gate. Distance is right and class is beatable, one of the chances. Prince Of Mine rates well, despite the tote figure. Won last race well, but, will need to show a little more to win today. Jockey change doesn’t help here, but, the horse has the ability to shock today.
Top Pick – Durif
Next Best – Jabrook
Longshot – Prince Of Mine
