Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Gunnedah

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to form, nailing back-to-back quaddies last week. After a small break yesterday, we have a few competitive races at Gunnedah – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Backing up from a medium day yesterday at Morphettville.

Race 1 – ULTRA FLEET MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m

One ture standout here in the first of the day at Gunnedah, that presents not a great deal of value to punters. Greg Ryan trialed strongly on Burning Crown, winning it by just over 3L. Debuts here against a very speed lacking field – something this horse has in abundance and will prove hard to beat here. Madam Yoko has yet to show its full potential, and, we haven’t seen what it showed in trials and jumpouts prior to hitting the race track. If it can find its best, it can come close here today, but, will need sharp improvement. Afterthelastone is the bbest of the rest here and has some appeal at double digit odds. Will struggle against this field, but, with some luck, can come home late.

Top Pick – Burning Crown
Next Best – Madam Yoko
Longshot – Afterthelastone

TOP PICK

Race 2 – M P C EARTHMOVING MAIDEN PLATE 1400m

Jacks Creek has drawn the carpark here, but, has shown enough to suggest it can overcome this obstacle, and presents Greg Ryan with a quick shot at a race-to-race double. Came on strongly last start over the six furlongs and made it look as if it needed more to win – gets the extra furlong here today and will go close. Irish Shotgun with Alan Chau in the saddle is the next best here. Greg Ryan trialed for a nice win, and, if Chau can replicate this form will come very close to a debut win here. Can go close. Volt Of Power is the best of the rest here, not really longshot value – but, is one of the top three chances here. Will be coming from a wide enough barrier, but, has good early speed to overcome this and Travis Wolfgram is enjoying a good run of form in country NSW at the moment, so, this duo can’t be discredited.

Top Pick – Jacks Creek
Next Best – Irish Shotgun
Longshot/Value – Volt Of Power

TOP PICK

Race 3 – TAB KOSCIUSZKO SWEEPSTAKES BM 58 2050m

The son of Helmet, who drops in class, and gets to a distance he has been a proven winner at is the one to be on today – Helstar. Travis Wolfgram and Helstar combined for a good win over the eleven furlong marker two starts back against a similar field, and, with a little less to run here today – there is nothing to suggest it can’t replicate that success again here today. Cuban Lass is the next best here, won two times from two attempts at this distance, enjoys the long trip and will be right there again at the end if it stays true to its consistency. Pretty Pine is the best of the rest here, gets Sky Bogenhuber in the saddle for this one and is coming in on the back of good last three attempts going no lower than third. Expect another bold run again today.

Top Pick – Helstar
Next Best – Cuban Lass
Longshot – Pretty Pine

TOP PICK

Race 4 – THE KOSCIUSZKO 13TH OCT CLASS 3 1300m

The big D, Darryl McLellan gets one of his top rides for the day here in Fussinado. Stepping up slightly in class here today, strong winner last race against a good horse in Billy Bent Here who won in the city in its last race. Fussinado only needs to run at that level to beat this field today. Next best here is Go The Gantry with Conwoman being scratched. Greg Ryan has a number of quality rides here today and this is just another. Barely missed the win last start and, that run looked like it wanted a little bit more room in order to win, it gets it here today and could be swooping late. Expect a bold run. Another Plan and Sky Bogenhuber are the best of the rest here. At decent odds today, Another Plan showed some promise last start when finishing off strongly for third against similar company. Drawn well on the gate here today and, can get over the top of these.

Top Pick – Fussinado
Next Best – Go The Gantry
Longshot – Another Plan

TOP PICK

Race 5 – MANNON DRILLING XMAS HAMS CLASS 1 1400m

Delete is one of the most underrated horses here at Gunnedah today. Going up in class today – but more than capable of winning. Strong win last start against a flying Acraman in the city, yet to be out of the money over this distance, and will use its early speed to get to or near the front of the pack. If Wolfgram can dictate the pace of this race, Delete will be hard to beat. Happens Nomore is another big chance on the day for the talented Sky Bogenhuber. Dropping from class 2 to class 1 here today, and, will be looking to go better over the longer distance than the eye catching fourth last start with Sky in the saddle. One to include here today. Morotai was an impressive winner last start, and, is capable of producing a similar effort with 300 metres more to run. Will sit back off the pace and look to flash home late, has drawn well and should get cover throughout, if Adams can get a seam, will go very close again today.

Top Pick – Delete
Next Best – Happens Nomore
Longshot – Morotai

TOP PICK

Race 6 – AGQUIP FIELD DAYS CUP HANDICAP 1300m

Turcotte is coming into this one in stellar form, when not including last run, as that seventh can be forgiven due to running into traffic and not getting a run. Before that, ran on strongly for an impressive win by almost 2L over the distance at this track, that race was against a better field of competitors, and, can very well double up on that performance. Gadfly is one that must be included as well, another of Wolfgram’s best rides for the day, and, at time of writing, currently trades as the favourite. Gadfly is a winner at class and distance multiple times, and, is a Smart Missile gelding. Be right in it. Rockatorio is the best of the rest here. Last race can be forgiven after jumping awkwardly and copping a bit of bumping just out of the gate and never recovering. Prior to that, had been right around the money over multiple attempts at the distance. Any effort similar to those here today, and Rockatorio will have every chance.

Top Pick – Turcotte
Next Best – Gadfly
Longshot – Rockatorio

TOP PICK

Race 7 – GUNNEDAH TAXIS AND CABS BM 62 1000m

Sky Bogenhuber has her best of the day in the last here in Don Franco. Don Franco is coming in off a spell of 155-days, prior to spell, kicked on well enough on the straight to go from gate-to-post for a win. Finds a similar field to that day, where today’s field lacks the top end speed that will put Don Franco out of place. Expected to roll forward and prove hard to catch. Next best here is Squared, who won well last start, but, has an awkward gate here today. Has the late speed to potentially catch the front runners if not too far back. Greg Ryan can bookend this meet here. Another first up runner here, and, Sepae could prove the winner here. Drawn well, dropping in class significantly, and has a good record against this class. Could win this.

Top Pick – Don Franco
Next Best – Squared
Longshot – Sepae

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Morphettville

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to form, nailing back-to-back quaddies this week. With some big fields, and a few competitive races – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Backing up from a medium day yesterday at Taree.

Race 1 – DOWIE DOOLE HURDLE 3100m

Not really much to be said here, Morphettville kicks the day off with a hurdle race – which Killarney Kid is the only winning hope in. Not much else needs to be said here, the market reflects this.

Top Pick – Killarney Kid
No next best – No second or third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 2 – UBET HANDICAP 1050m

Another small field to kick things off here at Morphettville, and, another one horse race in a small field. Jamie Kah and the Dabernig stable are the top hope here on Thine Is The Power, on what looks to be a sloppy day at the South Australian track with moderate rain forecasted.

Top Pick – Thine Is The Power
No next best – No second or third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 3 – HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY HARRY PERKS 2000m

Another Weir runner here that looks to add another early win for the stable in Kellstorm. In what is looking like a day for favourites early on – Kellstorm drops significantly in class here (-12) looking for the win, and should be able to get it. Super Swoop is a looming danger, especially with the form of Raquel Clark who has the ride. And, if you are a value hunter – a win from Little Akie wouldn’t be a shock here either.

Top Pick – Kellstorm
Next Best – Super Swoop
Longshot – Little Akie

TOP PICK

Race 4 – IRISH RACE DAY -1/9 HANDICAP 1050m

Another race that maps like a battle between the two favourite here, with Thompson Reward holding the edge. Kayla Crowther has one of her best chances here on the improving Reward For Effort gelding. Winner over this distance previously, as well as at track and is dropping in class here. One to beat. Debt Collector is another one of the chances here today, also dropping in class winning over distance and track as well. Will be a tough race between the two lead horses here. Value runner here is in Extreme Thrill. Second up here today and winner second up previously, placed twice on softer going as well. One to watch.

Top Pick – Thompson’s Reward
Next Best – Debt Collector
Longshot – Extreme Thrill

TOP PICK

Race 5 – THIRSTY CAMEL CUP LAWN PARTY 21/12 1600m

Another favourite here, but, at good odds at the moment, with Extreme Witness still floating at $6.00 at time of writing. Most consistent here and looking to get first win at the Morphettville track. Has shown plenty of promise and, at its best, is too good for this field. Froggy Newitt and Minoan Spirit can’t be looked past here, quality horse with a jockey that loves the Morphettville track. Expected to go close here. Big value here on Holy Juan, it is a true winning chance and the odds don’t reflect this currently. Last start can be forgiven when boxing on into traffic and not getting a lane, three starts back ran on well for a contested third with an extra furlong, may have gone two better, a run close to that effort, would be good enough here.

Top Pick – Extreme Witness
Next Best – Minoan Spirit
Longshot – Holy Juan

TOP PICK

Race 6 – AAMI SPRING CARNIVAL 20 OCT-6 NOV 1200m

It;s Time For Magic is the one to beat here, Emily Finnegan will be carrying a light weight here on the impressive sprinter, which is a big bonus here as the track conditions should be abysmal by this race. Freshened for four weeks and ran a strong trial on the soft before this race. Winner first up before, winner at distance, and placed one one try at the track. Could be on the money here today. Georgina Cartwright has the next best here in Lucky Fish, dropping in class slightly, has a strong, powerful gait that will help with the track conditions and has a big engine. Don’t take lightly. Winner at distance previously, Bellomo will have that chance again here at long odds. Will need some luck to pull this off, but, last start fourth was impressive against a much stronger field. Win wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – It’s Time For Magic
Next Best – Lucky Fish
Longshot – Bellomo

TOP PICK

Race 7 – DAVID R COLES AM SPRING STAKES 1200m

Jamie Kah has the one you want to be on here in Dollar For Dollar – not to be confused with here regular ride Dollar Dollar. Impressive on boggy tracks, slight drop in class and a 100% strike rate at the distance. If Kah can stay near the front, will have every chance. Inn Keeper must be included here, unbeaten on heavy track conditions, won four of last five and non winning effort was a close second. Drawn well and has every chance here. Emily Finnegan has a true chance here at long odds in Tatoosh. The Irish hoop will have a horse that is a winner first up, strong performer on heavy and showed strong winning form before going on spell. Should have residual fitness here and will go close.

Top Pick – Dollar For Dollar
Next Best – Inn Keeper
Longshot – Tatoosh

TOP PICK

Race 8 – HEINEKEN 3 HANDICAP 1200m

Miss Coolangatta comes into this one with a great form line and maps well here. Justin Potter has a very good strike rate in South Australia’s at winning the last race on a card, and, he has a big chance to improve on that here. Strong place on heavy conditions, winner at distance and class. Expected to handle this one well. Top hope. Jamie Kah has another big chance here in Moghul Empire, coming in fresh after a 119 day spell and targeting a softer race dropping significantly in class. Wise And Happy is the value here, coming in with great form, and getting Eran Boyd back in the saddle who turned in an eye catching third last time they combined. AN effort close to that, and will be right in it here.

Top Pick – Miss Coolangatta
Next Best – Moghul Empire
Longshot – Wise And Happy

TOP PICK

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Taree

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to form, nailing back-to-back quaddies. With some big fields, and a few competitive races – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Backing up from a big day yesterday, including a quaddie win at Newcastle.

Race 1 – HICKS BUSINESS SERVICES F&M MAIDEN 1250m

Tartufo Bianco is the pick of the opener here. Impressive last start on debut and unlucky to just miss its debut win. Has an easier field here and gets the extra metres it needed to win last start. Expect a bold run here today. Lees has a good chance at taking the first with the two best horses in the opener with Tartufo Bianco and Think Free. The So You Think filly is on debut here but, from all accounts is ready to fire. Has the pedigree and willing to take it on here. Longshot value in this one goes to Le Faberge, strong run second last start, and, anything close to that form will have him close again. One to watch.

Top Pick – Tartufo Bianco
Next Best – Think Free
Longshot – Le Faberge

TOP PICK

Race 2 – PAGE ELEVEN MARKETING CG&E MAIDEN 1250m

Eskimo Commander put in a lot of hard work last start and, is ready to fire here today. The favourite doesn’t have what you want on debut – doesn’t mean it can’t run well, but, it doesn’t rate well here where Eskimo Commander only needs to replicate last effort to win here. Big engine and can win this one second up. The Excites gelding here is the next best option. Neptune was disappointing last start on a first up effort, will be second up here today and strips fitter. Slight drop in class as well which helps, and, will go close. Chasin makes a small drop in class today, but is second up here today, and placed second up previously. Has the ability to win here and is slightly over where it should be valued.

Top Pick – Eskimo Commander
Next Best – Neptune
Longshot – Chasin

TOP PICK

Race 3 – EDDIES FRESH CHICKENS PLATE 1600m

Grand Soleil is an undeserving short priced favourite here, this doesn’t mean that it can’t win, but, it represents no value – and it hasn’t proven that it can beat this field even dropping in grade to have an edge. Unimpressive over last few starts which really opens the door to some value here. Best value here is in the impressive Eye Was, who had an eye catching win last start when beating James Richard, at this track with the same jockey, nothing says that it can be repeated. Our Espostio is another impressive runner that scored a good win last up, and, has the in form Rachel Murray in the saddle. Expect another bold run here again today. Ravitude is another here with legitimate claims, good value, has shown good late speed that could capitalise on a slowish looking race. Win wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – Eye Was
Next Best – Our Esposito
Longshot – Ravitude

TOP PICK

Race 4 – DAWSONS WHOLESALE SMALLGOODS 2000m

Serious Dancer has been prepped for this race well, and comes in on a good run of form, with back to back seconds and looking to go one better over the right distance here. Looked hungry for more running room over last couple of efforts and is getting that lift here today while also dropping in class. One to beat. Miss Zodiac has been just off the money on five of eight runs over this distance, and, will be the speed horse of this race. Expected to sit off the pace and use that strong turn of foot to get this one late. Expect a bold run. Value runner here today is Clune’s Rocket. The old 9-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and is a getting its first try at the ten furlongs today. One to keep an eye on here can win.

Top Pick – Serious Dancer
Next Best – Miss Zodiac
Longshot – Clune’s Rocket

TOP PICK

Race 5 – TAREE SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 58 1000m

Tough race here to start the quaddie in one of the most open races of the day. But, the nod here will go to Belinda Hodder and Stoddart. If Hodder can overcome the wide barrier, she will be right in this one. Stoddart enjoys riding just off the lead horses and, with a bit of luck, will be able to get across without getting caught wide. If Hodder can save some stamina for the end of the race without too much early work – Stoddart can win this, showing a great turn of foot previously. Typhoon Bonny would be the top pick here if not coming in off a spell. Has won first up previously and gets the claim with Graham in the saddle as well as dropping in class. Has every chance to win here. Best value is Outsmartem, dropping in class, but, caught a wide barrier and will need to get across early. However, Outsmartem possesses a lot of early speed and will look to push to the lead. If it can dictate the pace of the race, it has shown that it can go post-to-post previously.

Top Pick – Stoddart
Next Best – Typhoon Bonny
Longshot – Outsmartem

TOP PICK

Race 6 – R & L REFRIGERATION CLASS 1 1000m

At short odds – Foxy’s Foxinator maps too well for this field and the market is reflecting this. Belinda Hodder doesn’t squander chances like this, and, with the added kicker of running well from a wide barrier, Foxy’s Foxinator will prove hard to beat here. Impulsive Maneuver is a real threat here. Coming in fresh and placed first-up previously, gets the in form McGuren in the saddle, expect a bold run here. Allez Rev is the best of the rest here. Hull has run in a strong third with this horse last start in this class and distance – will be thereabouts again.

Top Pick – Foxy’s Foxinator
Next Best – Impulsive Maneuver
Longshot – Allez Rev

TOP PICK

Race 7 – MNCRA AWARDS HOPKINS LIVERMORE CUP 1400m

Another rather open race here, with a few that look every chance to win it. However, the one that maps the best here is the Steven Fell trained and Andrew Gibbons ridden Alot Like Home. Gibbons rode for an impressive win over six furlongs last start and, the trainer promptly moved the horse up to seven furlongs for this race. Has all the potential to repeat last start success as when winning looked like it could have kept going. Marathon can’t be ignored here. Winner of five from nine attempts at the distance, running lighter here by 7kgs compared to last start third, a win here wouldn’t surprise. Profiler is the value runner here, winner at class and distance previously, last start third was impressive when running against a better field of runners. Can go close.

Top Pick – Alot Like Home
Next Best – Marathon
Longshot – Profiler

Top Pick

Race 8 – TAREE TRUCK CENTRE CLASS 2 1400m

Another tricky race here, with two real big standouts, but, the nod goes to the one with value in Saint Denis. Ran impressively this prep to grab multiple seconds, and, maps well against this field. Only missed last race as Hermosa Reward had a great kick in the dying embers of the race. Run similar to last outing will be enough here. African Guy is the next best. Form is strong being just off a win over last three starts and will be looking to finish this one off a little better than last when just not having that little bit more. Has the ability, just needs some luck from the wider gate. Sniponet has been prepped for this race after a disappointing fifth last start, Gibbons has the ride and has drawn well near the rail. will look to roll forward and fight for leadership with Saint Denis, track favours lead horses and could do enough to win here.

Top Pick – Saint Denis
Next Best – African Guy
Longshot/Value – Sniponet

TOP PICK

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Newcastle

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns to where it was rebooted not too long ago – the Canterbury race track. With some small fields, and a few competitive races – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Backing up from a big day yesterday, including a quaddie win at Canterbury.

Race 1 – HUNGERFORD HILL WINES CG&E CLASS 1 1500m

Salsa Man is the one to be on here. While Bobbio and Triumph Star are clear dangers, Salsa Man has the most upside in this small field of competitors. Dropping in class and will look to ride just off the lead group, has shown a good turn of foot when winning previously and this distance is optimal. Expect a bold showing. Triumph Star and Andrew Adkins are the next best options here, while Bobbio gets strong consideration, the weight claim for Triumph Star puts him in good steed here and will be competitive throughout.

Top Pick – Salsa Man
Next Best – Triumph Star
No longshot – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 2 – WESTFIELD KOTARA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500m

Tye Angland has his best of the day at Newcastle here with Song And A Prayer. Impressive type that is racing well, just yet to crack that maiden, but, has that chance here in a small but competitive field. Drawn the rail and expected to run just behind the lead group, good turn of foot and will be hard to keep out here. Next Best is Homework. The Angland v Ford battle will be a good one to keep an eye on today, and in the first two races, they both have some very capable horses, and Homework is no exception, ran on gamely for a tough second last start and will be looking to do just that little bit more here to get the win. Value runner here is Regal Capital. Rachel King is in good form at the moment nad gets a horse at wide odds that has shown that it can run on strong, and, in this competitive field, has every chance.

Top Pick – Song And A Prayer
Next Best – Homework
Longshot – Regal Capital

TOP PICK

Race 3 – ADVANCED PEST CONTROL MAIDEN PLATE 1330m

Art Of More continues the short price trend here. Tommy Berry in the saddle and placed third up over this distance previously. Last start second over the trip and, looked to be closing off strong only just missing the win. Less competitive field here today, weight not an issue here, and has a lot going for it here, top chance. Seeingisbelieving is the next best here, another of Angland’s top rides for the day, just had its chances increase with the early morning scratching of favourite, Semper Fidelis. First up today after a five month layoff, expect a strong run fresh here. Almerheri is the ebst of the rest here, and another Rachel King longshot here. This race became a lot more open with the above scratching, and, Almerheri has the ability to win this, was against much better competition on first two starts and should find this group a little better. Needs to show something today.

Top Pick – Art Of More
Next Best – Seeingisbelieving
Longshot – Almaheri

TOP PICK

Race 4 – SHARP ELECTRONICS GROUP CLASS 1 900m

Venture Capital has drawn a sticky barrier, but, with it being a small field, won’t have to work as hard to get into a favourable positions. Bullock likes the Newcastle track, and, has his best ride of the day here on Venture Capital. Yet to show its full potential, and, if today is that day – could put this field to rest in the last furlong.

Top Pick – Venture Capital
No next best – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 5 – AUSTRALIAN BLOODSTOCK 3YO MAIDEN 900m

Another top chance here from Tye Angland on the untested Happy Bubbles, who has drawn well and by all accounts will look to push forward and dictate the pace of the race. The Ryan stables have indicated that they are extremely happy with the way Happy Bubbles has progressed and are really confident in what it will be able to do today. Expect a big run on debut. Main danger here is in the Lees trained runner Evalina, first up today after a promising debut, then spell. Should have the residual fitness here to remain in this. Another danger horse could be the Godolphin runner – Watching, but, two starts back, no excuses to offer and ran poorly down the straight. Hard to accept as a winning chance after that effort.

Top Pick – Happy Bubbles
Next Best – Evalina
Longshot/Value – Watching

TOP PICK

Race 6 – MACKA’S SAND & SOIL MAIDEN PLATE 1850m

Stage Pass has been right on the mark all prep so far, and, has its best chance to break through here today. Drawn the rail and expected roll forward early and dictate the pace of the race here. Failed to hold on thus far, but, with a slower tempo approach can go the full length here in the lead. My King’s Counsel has been doing its best work late, trying to swoop home late, would have got there last start with a bit more ground when covering a lot to finish fourth, will have the chance here with the extra metres. Shaodw Of Mordor is the best of the rest here, great value at double digits and has was right there last effort when finishing off excruciatingly close with a late push by 0.2L. Can go better here and will be right up there again today.

Top Pick – Stage Pass
Next Best – My King’s Counsel
Longshot – Shadow Of Mordor

TOP PICK

Race 7 – YARRAMAN PARK STUD BM 65 HANDICAP 1850m

Another small but competitive field here where Scratches will be the one to beat, plenty of horses have been scratched form this race, but, Scratches has remained and has the best form leading into this one. The Waller runner was an impressive winner two starts back, and, last start can be forgiven when finishing fifth after running into traffic. Has a lot less in front of er here today and can hit the post hard. Belle Du Sud has been there abouts last handful of starts, has a smaller field which helps here, and less competitive opponents, can be tricky to gauge this horse at times as it gives 100% one run then 40% the next. With less in its surroundings here, expecting a strong finish. Happy Partner is the value runner in this race. As said before, Penza loves to strike at North Coast tracks late in the day with horses over $10 and Happy Partner actually maps well for this one. Impressive third over a similar distance in a similar group of runners last up – and this duo will be better for it. Win won’t surprise here.

Top Pick – Scratches
Next Best – Belle Du Sud
Longshot – Happy Partner

TOP PICK

Race 8 – NATIONWIDE SUPER F&M CLASS 1 1500m

This last race is possibly the trickiest of the entire meet, a strong list of runners and a favourite that is extremely unpredictable. However, we aren’t going to go with the favourite here and we are going with the standout from the Lees stable in Sunreel. Strong winner last up, blowing the field away by a strong 1.5L, looking like it would have done an ever bigger margin had there been more room to run. Goes up a furlong and a half on winning effort, and, is a definite contender here. Value runner of the day. Velocano is one that you can’t look past here either. Strong form and gets Rachel King in the saddle, who placed in a competitive race last start with the horse. Looking to go one better here today and there is nothing that suggests that it can’t. The Waller trained, Joy Forever was a strong winner last start at Hawkesbury over the trip, has a jockey change here today, but, James McDonald is no downgrade. Joy Forever has the pedigree and the proven ability to win at this trip. One to include in exotics here.

Top Pick – Sunreel
Next Best – Velocano
Longshot – Joy Forever
