The return of the Punters Guide was an overwhelming success at Geelong with the first six races being represented in the selections. Today, at Moruya, we hope to go even better! We have some runners today, that just look too good on paper. Let’s do this.
Race 1 – East Coast Radio Maiden Handicap 980m
Pulla Swifty is coming in off a spell here, and will be better for it. First up race, caught a lot of trouble when getting stuck with nowhere to go, Taylor will be able to get a better line with a lower number of competitors in this one, and should be right amongst it. Tiffoni has rural track specialist, Jeff Penza in the saddle here, and, coming off a flashy second last start, has only to replicate that type of effort to go close again. Major Rush needs to be respected dropping in class here and getting the blinkers on first time – which it needed. Drawn well, and, could feature here.
Top Pick – Pulla Swifty
Next Best – Tiffoni
Longshot – Major Rush
Race 2 – Rixon’s Bus Service Maiden Plate 1210m
Hard to go past the favourite in this one, Revitup Rednut will be too good for this field. Not much needs to be said, it has everything going for it in this one. Of the ones that could upset the very short favourite, Who Da Witness has the late speed that could upset here, but, will need a lot of luck. Of the rest, All Bear has its chance here, but, like the others, will need a lot of luck to beat the favourite.
Top Pick – Revitup Rednut
Next Best – Who Da Witness
Longshot – All Bear
Race 3 – River Restaurant Maiden Handicap 1435m
Beersheba Lass is another of the favourites today, that is too good to pass on. Robbie Brewer returns for the ride here after a very eye catching effort for second last up over a similar distance, and the extra few metres here today – was the difference between first and second last up. Expect a bold effort here today. Constitutional is the next best in the third here, solid form lines headed into this one and maps well. Value here goes to Sail To Glory, really struggled so far in its career, comes in rested here and will have every chance.
Top Pick – Beersheba Lass
Next Best – Constitutional
Longshot – Sail To Glory
Race 4 – Winning Edge Presentations Class 2 1435m
Belfast Bella appeals strongly here, last start can be forgiven when running into traffic, but, race before that was a strong win. Anything near to that level, and Belfast Bella will be unbeatable against this field. Top Rated. Not Bossy is the main danger here, at its best, can be competitive, but, form headed into this one isn’t noteworthy. Needs a big kick in racing performance to beat the favourite here. Longshot of this race goes to Interventions. The Bensley runner looked impressive last start when winning, and is suited by the class and track conditions. A win wouldn’t surprise.
Top Pick – Belfast Bella
Next Best – Not Bossy
Longshot – Interventions
Race 5 – Jeff Penza Premier Jockey BM58 1660m
Another short price pick here – but, today maps very favourably for the lower odds horses, and Napoli is another of those. The in-form Nick Heywood has the ride, and, on recent efforts rates highly in this one. Last start can be forgiven when losing balance on the final turn, two before that were a strong second and first, racing like either of those efforts in this one, and, Napoli could prove the benchmark of this race. Orchestral Lass is a definite danger in this one based off recent form. Rates well here and is suited by the conditions. A good start could put Orchestral Lass in a prominent position. Receipt is the value horse here, has shown great speed of late, and, has the top end speed to take down the favourite in the closing stages. Don’t take lightly.
Top Pick – Napoli
Next Best – Orchestral Lass
Longshot – Receipt
Race 6 – Matthew Dale Premier Trainer 1210m
The favourite in this one leaves a bit to be desired, and, will struggle against this field. The first runner that could beat this favourite is Disturbance, who is coming in fresh today, and has shown the ability needed to win this, rates well and should finish hard. The silky gray, Budderoo Knight knows how to win, has done so for us around t his time last year. Strong finisher that needs to be respected here, can beat this field. Kormaddie represents great value here, last start win was strong and maps well for this race, gets an upgrade in the saddle and will be competitive.
Top Pick – Disturbance
Next Best – Budderoo Knight
Longshot – Kormaddie
Race 7 – AMH Auto Group Class 3 Handicap 1020m
Leami Astray is unbeaten at track and distance and is a winner with Winona Costin in the saddle previously. Recent performances rate well for this highly competitive race with Leami Astray getting the edge of the favourite. Eve’s Miss has the best form of any horse in this race, but, doesn’t get the nod over the top pick due to the experience gap in the saddle. Griffiths has never ridden Eve’s Miss previously and has struggled when first up on a horse previously. With that said, does still appeal off the horses ability. Little Off The Top is the best of the rest, coming in fresh, and winner first up previously. Winner at distance and strong performer at track. Could prove value.
Top Pick – Leami Astray
Next Best – Eve’s Miss
Longshot – Little Off The Top
