Melbourne Cup Punters Guide – 7th of November

Well, here it is, the climax of the Australian Spring Carnival. The Emirates Melbourne Cup Day. And, we here at Bet Chimps, couldn’t be anymore excited. This is when we will be producing our Punters Guide for our followers and we will be making some dollarydo’s. What wait – you can jon the Bet Chimps movement here

Race 1 – EMIRATES 100TH A380 STAKES 1000m (G3)

The favourite at the time of writing is Qafila, a speedy type that is in great form headed into the Cup day opener. McEvoy being in the saddle only adds confidence to the chances here. Setsuna is the next best here in what is really shaping up as a two horse race. Baster has been in great form and these two at Flemington will definitely be there abouts. Farthing Wood is coming in untested, but, Weir has a knack of producing quality young horses and his partnership with John Allen is seldom unsuccessful.

Top Pick – Qafila (2)
Next Best – Setsuna (1)
Outsider – Farthing Wood (5)

Race 2 – TAB.COM.AU TROPHY 1700m

Invincibella is the form horse in this race – early start win would do well for the confidence of jockey Hugh Bowman who has a top chance in the Cup. Invincibella will be running mid pack and hope that this big field will open a lane to burst through. Sectionals only add to confidence. Hell Or Highwater when Damian Oliver is in the saddle is always competitive, a jockey change here will see Dean Yendall get the mount, who has been in top form of late. Expect a bold showing. Luke Nolen and Lady Silhouette round out the list of hopefuls here. Running into this in solid form, Lady Silhouette certainly wouldn’t surprise if she won.

Top Pick – Invincibella (3)
Next Best – Hell or Highwater (1)
Outsider – Lady Silhouette (6)

Jamie Kah is in the top 10 jockey’s in Australia for win percentages, and, she is riding her self proclaimed favourite horse in this one, on Dollar For Dollar. With the form Kah has been in of late, it is hard to look past the South Australian flyer. Expect Dollar For Dollar to be on the winners podium. New Universe has been running in well, and is prepped for this start. The quickest horse on sectionals, but, the expected soggy track may lay issues to its claims. Boggoms has been a blackbooker of ours for a long time, and we aren’t going to shy away from it here. Always in it at the end, and, if a kick can be had, can best this field.

Top Pick – Dollar For Dollar (4)
Next Best – New Universe (6)
Outsider – Boggoms (2)

Sin To Win is the value runner of the day today. McEvoy has a great chance to pick up an early double if he plays his cards right. Sin To Win likes the distance, has form on softer going and likes the trip. Ticks all the boxes. Yogi will most certainly look to drop back early with the wide barrier draw and save itself for the closing stages of the race. Late speed helps with claims. The Willybe has great form and value here. Has beaten others in this race, likes the trip and is proven on softer going. Dark horse.

Top Pick – Sin To Win (6)
Next Best – Yogi (5)
Outsider – The Willybe (9)

One of the two Godolphin runners here is going to be hard to beat – Piracy is in the better form of the two and will enjoy the run on the speed. Softer track will make it harder for back markers to pull through. Hard to beat. Nature Strip is coming in off a second place and a win, hard to fault form and retains familiar jockey. Bandipur is the second of the Godolphin runners here. Will look to settle off the pace and use good late speed to overcome the other runners.

Top Pick – Piracy (5)
Next Best – Nature Strip (8)
Outsider – Bandipur (2)

Our Crown Mistress is the form horse of the day here. Has shown great speed and oozes potential. The distance suits and has priors. Baster having the ride only adds to the confidence. One to beat. Warranty is always there. Bowman with another good ride and will really be looking to head into the Cup in high spirits. Warranty has the late speed to test these. Super Snob has good form over the distance and on softer going. Has great value at wide odds and a win wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – Our Crown Mistress (2)
Next Best – Warranty (6)
Outsider – Super Snob (10)

Here it is, the race that stops the nation. One of the most open fields in recent memory, just about any horse in this race has a legitimate claim to win this, but, there are three that really stand out at this point. Marmelo will have one of the best jockeys in the nation in the saddle in Hugh Bowman, has shown that it knows how to win over the distance and on softer going. A class horse, with class ability that will take an effort to beat.

Thomas Hobson is also a legitimate claimant in this race, has won multiple times over the distance, has won at this class level, and has won repeatedly on softer going. Thomas Hobson will have the jockey that came second just a year ago and will be looking to get it right this year in Magic Man Morreira. Hard to look past.

Max Dynamite has raced in the cup before and came ever so close. Was eclipsed by big outside winner Pirates of Penzance two years ago. Has since been rested for this race, 75-day spell after winning at 3400m. Will be getting Zac Purton in the saddle who is more than familiar with both the race and the Flemington track. Ticks a lot of boxes, just needs to get a break or two and it will be right in this.

Others to consider
Red Cardinal

Top Pick – Marmelo (5)
Next Best – Thomas Hobson (21)
Outsider – Max Dynamite (9)

Exotic – Boxed First Four: Humidor (3), Marmelo (5), Max Dynamite (9), Thomas Hobson (21)

Balf’s Choice is the form runner of the race, has proven itself time and time again in South Australia and will be looking to make a claim in front of a bigger crowd. Has drawn a good gate and has McEvoy in the saddle. Hard to beat. Lubiton has been showing up recently and is looking better each run. The wide barrier is a concern, but, Damian Lane is producing at the moment in melbourne and represents great value here. Daniel Moor and De Little Engine should never be excluded. Always in it at the end and has legitimate claims here despite the wide odds. Excellent sprinter and will come close.

Top Pick – Balf’s Choice (7)
Next Best – Lubiton (11)
Outsider – De Little Engine (8)

So You Too comes in to this race in good footing. Has Zac Purton in the saddle, won over the distance, likes the track and is always competitive. Lost last start to Rich Charm, but, was certainly not disgraced coming in second. Good form line and has what it takes. I Thought So is the next best here, Magic Man Morriera is in the saddle, coming in after knocking on the door in last few races. Distance and class both suit. Win wouldn’t surprise. Oberland rarely runs a bad race. Coming in with not so great form, but, the distance, class and track all suit here. Enjoys bigger crowds and will lift its game here.

Top Pick – So You Too (12)
Next Best – I Thought So (15)
Outsider – Oberland (17)

After the Melbourne Cup, this on paper, is the most competitive field after that. A lot of quality runners here and White Moss has shown the ability to best these. Three wins from last four starts, will be third up and in great order here for this one. Jason Collett in the saddle who has Sydney form. Hard to beat. Pedrena is the next best here, untested on softer tracks, and, if weather predictions hold true, will be his first test on it. Expect a bold showing with late speed. Quilista is a horse that should never not be included, at its best, will beat any horse in this field. Has a great turn of foot and will be sitting just off the pace.

Top Pick – White Moss (5)
Next Best – Pedrena (13)
Outsider – Quilista (9)

Best Bet – Race 5 – Piracy
Next Best – Race 10 – White Moss
Longshot – Race 4 – The Willybe

Bet Chimps Double – Sin To Win to PLACE in to White Moss to PLACE @ $5.09 on Crownbet

Quaddie of the Raceard
Race 7 – Marmelo (5), Max Dynamite (9), Thomas Hobson (21)
Race 8 – Balf’s Choice (7), Da Little Engine (8), Lubtion (11)
Race 9 – So You Too (12), I Thought So (15), Oberland (17)
Race 10 – White Moss (5), Quilista (9), Pedrena (13)

Victoria Derby Day Punters Guide – 4th of November

Victoria Derby Day Punters Guide

Snitzepeg is coming in on the back of a great win last start, retains winning jockey and has drawn a good enough barrier to get in a decent position early in cover. One to beat. Lord Sundowner almost got it done for us in his last but, ultimately fell just short when grabbing second place. In a good field here, but, at its best, will be hard to beat. Jamie Kah has been a sensation this season, and, she has great value on the outsider here in Paseeto. Drawn the carpark, but, has shown good early speed to run just off the pace previously. one to consider.

Top Pick – Snitzepeg (1)
Next Best – Lord Sundowner (10)
Outsider – Paseeto (8)

Race 2 – G.H.MUMM WAKEFUL STAKES 2000m (G2)

Bring Me Roses will need some luck to overcome a wide barrier draw, but, Zahra is the form jockey and knows the track well. Winner last start, will be there abouts throughout the trip and has shown good late speed to close this out. Hard to beat. Rimraam has yet to finish outside of second over its last four runs. Recent winner, and has drawn a traffic barrier, McEvoy is in the saddle however and knows how to work the field. Expect a bold finish. Jeff Lloyd rarely leaves the comfort of Queensland, but, he has for Glam Guru. Glam Guru has struggled with recent form, despite grabbing a couple of fourths and second, has really got to push forward to have a chance here.

Top Pick – Bring Me Roses (1)
Next Best – Rimraam (6)
Outsider – Glam Guru (3)

Race 3 – KIP SPRINT 1100m (G3)

In what looks to be the most lackluster and most open race of the day – Nieta holds favourtism despite ugly run last outing. Bowman again has the ride and will be hopeful to improve on poor last outing. One of the chances. Shiedel is a crowd favourite, but, not a betting favourite. Been in streaky form after great Spring Carnival last year, at its best, would eat this field. Crystal Fountain has drawn the paddock, but, is second up here and looking much fitter on its second last up. Zahra again has a good mount and will make the most of it.

Top Pick – Nieta (5)
Next Best – Shiedel (1)
Outsider – Crystal Fountain (12)

Race 4 – LEXUS STAKES 2500m (G3)

Another of the really open races here today, with about four or five hopefuls. Alward is coming in on the best form and has the hot jockey in the saddle in McEvoy. Tested the distance but yet to win, has placed three times in five go’s. Another good effort is expected here. Cismontae finished off hard in its last race and, the distance suits here. Expected to run mid pack and use its late turn of foot to try and chase down the leaders. Include in exotics. Ecuador is a horse that can never be counted out, has one of the best turn of foots you can see when at its best and will run on the pace throughout. A win wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – Alward (9)
Next Best – Cistmontane (7)
Outsider – Ecuador (1)

Race 5 – COOLMORE STUD STAKES 1200m (G1)

A race full of top chances, the best of the pack however is rising star Houtzen. Houtzen will look to set the tone of the race up front early and should be hard to track down. McEvoy and Formality are the next best. Winner last start and has claims over the trip. Winner at this class level previously and has the ability to beat this field. Best of the rest is Kemantari. Damian Lane has the ride and is a good performer at Flemington. Hasn’t won at the this class is only concern.

Top Pick – Houtzen (15)
Next Best – Formality (18)
Outsider – Kemantari (2)

Race 6 – MYER CLASSIC 1600m (G1)

Global Glamour had a good return to form last start when getting the win over 1400m. Expect to run a similar race and the extra 200 metres suits. Tim Clark returning only adds to the confidence. hard to beat. Shoals has narrowly missed paydirt in its last two runs getting second both times. Steps up down class here and will test these. I Am A Star at its best, is the best horse in this field, issue with that is, that it is racing too inconsistently to gauge how well it will run. Has the ability and a win certainly wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – Global Glamour (2)
Next Best – Shoals (16)
Outsider – I Am A Star (4)

Race 7 – AAMI VICTORIA DERBY 2500m (G1)

Aces High is going to be hard to beat here. Winner last start against stiffer competition and beat another runner in Tangled. Retains winning jockey and has the form at this class only real question mark is the distance. Top chance. Main Stage and Michael Walker are going to be coming from a wide barrier, but, have won in this class previously. A real threat. Can never look past a Cumani horse when it comes to staying ability, Greyclffe is one of the top chances today and has already won at 2200m and that win looked like it would have done better with some extra metres. Dark horse here.

Top Pick – Aces high (1)
Next Best – Main Stage (5)
Outsider – Greycliffe (12)

Race 8 – KENNEDY MILE 1600m (G1)

Another tough race here with a lot of class runners, however, Tosen Stardom is the pick of the bunch. Winner in this class more than once and has won at the distance. Has Damian Lane in the saddle who loves the track – hard to look past. Tom Melbourne is always there abouts, has Glen Boss in the saddle, who is looking to get back to winning ways at Flemington. Tom Melbourne’s recent change of tactics has seen it run some competitive races and should be right in this. Egg Tart is the best of the rest here, at its best, can beat any horse in this field, however, running very inconsistently. Needs to find its best here and is one to include in case it does.

Top Pick – Tosen Stardom (1)
Next Best – Tom Melbourne (5)
Outsider – Egg Tart (6)

Keen Array is one to watch here. Exceptional late speed, loves the track, likes the distance and has won at this class previously. Certainly needs to overcome tricky barrier draw to have a hope. Rich Charm and Paul Maloney have had a good connection, has beaten the top pick previously and will be expected to be competitive again here. Distance, class and conditions all suit. Lope Di Capio is a back-to-back winner last two starts, gets an upgrade in the saddle with the fire from South Australia in Jamie Kah. Lope Di Capio at its best, can win this race, just needs some luck.

Top Pick – Keen Array (2)
Next Best – Rich Charm (11)
Outsider – Lope Di Capio (6)

Best Bet – Race 2 – Bring Me Roses
Next Best – Race 8 – Tosen Stardom

Cox Plate Punters Guide – 28th of October

Cox Plate Punters Guide

Demerara is one of the most backed horses today. It is coming in unbeaten over last three starts, stepping up in class but, more than capable to handle the task. Hugh Bowman and Jorda are a real danger here, both team up well with one another and the conditions suit today. Ready to peak. Blondie and Blake Shinn could prove to be a deadly duo, everyone knows not to back Shinn on a favourite, but, on a decent outsider, Shinn always manages to get close – expect the same here.

Top Pick – Demerara (8)
Next Best – Jorda (2)
Outsider – Blondie (6)

Invincibella is one that we have spruiked here for a while now, and, we are going to continue to do so until she truly beginns to disappoint – which doesn’t look to be anytime soon. Tim Clark returns for the mount here and this winning duo is going to be hard to beat despite the jump in class. Damian Oliver and Oregons day are the two you want to watch out for here, has shown great late speed and should be making a sweeping run late. One to include. Lubiton is the next best here, Shinn again on an outsider proven over the distance and class. Expect a bold showing here.

Top Pick – Invincibella (5)
Next Best – Oregons Day (6)
Outsider – Lubiton (3)

In what looks like a mid-car run for favourites, Big Duke is hard to go past here. If a run like last up can be reproduced, Big Duke will beat this field without too much hassle. Main danger here will be Auvray who is in better race condition now and will challenge Big Duke to produce his best.

Only one pick NTD

Top Pick – Big Duke (1)

Craig Williams was a man possessed last night on all horses not named Vega Magic. One of his better chances today is Banish. Despite the tricky barrier draw, banish has the early speed to push to sit just off the lead and has the turn of foot to really challenge this field. Glam Guru is the next best here. Damian Oliver has also drawn a wide barrier, but, Glam Guru has the ability to push forward quickly or sit mid pack and sweep late. One to watch. Speedway was our tip last time out and ran into a box. Willing to forgive this effort and take on previous form. If McEvoy can get a good line, this horse has the better late sectionals of these runners.

Top Pick – Banish (2)
Next Best – Glam Guru (3)
Outsider – Speedway (5)

Arguably one of McEvoy’s best rides today, It’s Somewhat has drawn the gun run on the rail and will be jumping forward early. Has the class to best this field and will be given every chance. One to beat. Religify is the perennial disappointment machine, willing to try again here on recent form and Bowman in the saddle. Can’t beat this field if at its best. Burning Front will do whatever it can to get near the lead and try to go gate to post here. Has shown the ability to do so previously, but, this field will challenge.

Top Pick – It’s Somewhat (1)
Next Best – Religify (4)
Outsider – Burning Front (3)

This race is about picking which horse will run a place – as first is already reserved for the mighty mare, Winx. After Winx, it is a competitive place field. Royal Symphony looks the best of the runners and is looking sharp to get the second spot. Has shown the speed needed to best this field. Happy Clapper was too slow last start and lost as a short favourite. Willing to forgive that here as this horse looks a certainty to be in the top 3.

Top Pick – Winx (8)
Next Best – Royal Symphony (9)
Outsider – Happy Clapper (1)

Race 10 – DRUMMOND GOLF VASE 2040m (G2)

Cliff’s Edge has bested us a few times now, and, it won’t be happening again. This is Cliff’s Edge’s race to lose. Has shown that it has what it takes to go from gate to post and is definitely a cut above the competition on offer here today. One to beat. Aloisia is the best of the rest here and the main danger to the top pick. Likes to sit midfield and save itself for the final two furlongs. Likes to build momentum throughout and will make a big push in the closing stage. Top chance. Vin De Dance and Damian Oliver are going to be the best of the rest here. In what really looks like a two horse race, Vin De Dance is the only one that looks like it could play party wrecker. Must have in exotics.

Top Pick – Cliff’s Edge (1)
Next Best – Aloisia (9)
Outsider – Vin De Dance (5)

Best Bet – Race 6 – Big Duke
Next Best – Race 4 – Demerara
Longshot – Race 10 – Vin De Dance

Bet Chimps Double – Demerara to win in to Big Duke to win @ $4.10 on Crownbet

Race 7 – Banish (2), Glam Guru (3), Speedway (5)
Race 8 – It’s Somewhat (1), Burning Front (3), Religify (5)

Manikato Stakes Day Punters Guide – 27th of October

Manikato Stakes Day Punters Guide

This one looks set to be the race that gets Guardini back on track, Mark Zahra has been in surprisingly good form at the right time and has the top mount here. Has the late speed to beat this field, Dodging Bullets is the danger horse.

Only one pick NTD

Top Pick – Guardini (1)

Noel Callow is not one of those jockeys you can trust whole heartedly with your money, but, he has form on Rib Eye, winning their last partnership at Moe. A field that really lacks true speed suits Rib Eye here and, will definitely make the most of this field. Daniel Stackhouse is on the next best here in Laughing Heir. Previous winner over the trip, has the speed to beat the field, but, the step up in grade is a question. Rockaway at wide odds is one that must be included, proven winner and is getting a big upgrade in the saddle, a win wouldn’t surprise.

Top Pick – Rib Eye (4)
Next Best – Laughing Heir (7)
Outsider – Rockaway (10)

Short odds runner Fox Hall is the one to beat here, not much closing speed in this race outside of the favourite and will be extremely hard to beat at this distance and grade.

Only one pick NTD

Top Pick – Fox Hall (5)

Madeenaty has speed to burn when it is at its best, Zahra again has picked up a top ride and the Hayes & Dabernig runner will most likely be the one to beat, proven over the distance and its sectionals are better than its opponents. Lina Meech will look to get the job done on the current favourite, Smart Coupe. Strike rate is at 100% over the trip and will be looking to maintain that strike rate here with only one other true competitor in the race.

Top Pick – Madeenaty (1)
Next Best – Smart Coupe (5)

Exotic – Quinella Madeenaty (1), Smart Coupe (5)

Tintagel Rocker is the real dark horse in this race, coming in with sound form and a two win streak, going against a field that it stacks up against very well. Has the late speed to push for a sweeping run. A win wouldn’t surprise. Petite’s Reward is the next best here, proven runner and won’t be thrown off by the crowd, has plenty of experience over the trip and, has shown priors against this class as well, one to consider. King’s Bay is the best of the rest here, Berriman is in as good a form as she has been all season, and, both the jockey and the horse are peaking at the right time. Expect a bold finish.

Top Pick – Tintagel Rocker (5)
Next Best – Petite’s Reward (7)
Outsider – King’s Bay (8)

This is the race to lose for Damian Oliver and Falika. Coming in on a two win stretch with the last being with the same jockey over a distance with an extra 40 metres. If a run is had similar to last time, then, the field won’t stand a chance here. Corey Brown and Toke Of Love are the next best here, Token Of Love is a proven sprinter and has the ability to upset the field here. Strong contender. Firenze is one that must always be included in exotics, has the ability and has shown it in the past, Zahra in the saddle only increases the chances.

Top Pick – Falika (4)
Next Best – Token Of Love (8)
Outsider – Firenze (3)

Corey Brown and the Sydney runner in her time look to be the ones to beat here. In solid form and both have paired for back-to-back wins in the lead up to the Manikato. Brown normally delivers on a quality horse when the stakes are higher. A win here would not surprise. Vega Magic can never not be included with how fast it finishes. Craig Williams in the saddle is always a worry. Will need a good ride to get the job done today. Chautauqua is the best of the rest here. The gray flash is being given one last chance here to regain the hearts of a nation after seemingly falling off the grid after coming back from overseas. Has the speed to eclipse this field if the trigger is flicked.

Top Pick – In Her Time (9)
Next Best – Vega Magic (2)
Outsider – Chautauqua (1)

Suspense and Michael Walker will be looking to combine for the upset win here. The horse has won five times over this trip and Walker is killing it on these middle of the road horses in Victoria at the moment, this combination is hard to look past. Helluva Street should never be looked beyond, has the priors over the distance and the class, age could be a factor at 7, but, has certainly shown it has enough in the tank to win here. Demonstrate has really fallen off the wagon since the bad beat with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle last spring carnival. It is hard to tell whether or not the horse has its confidence back, because, if it does, it can easily burn this field it it runs its best.

Top Pick – Suspense (12)
Next Best – Helluva Street (1)
Outsider – Demonstrate (6)

Best Bet – Race 2 – Rib Eye
Next Best – Race 1 – Guardini
Longshot – Race 5 – Tintagel Rocker

Bet Chimps Double – Rib Eye to win in to Fox Hall to win @ $4.42 on Crownbet
