The return of the Punters Guide has been getting results right off the bat, and, we are back again with another edition for the Taree race meet. Let’s not hold you back any longer – dive straight into the punters guide!

Race 1 – Taree League and Sports Club Maiden 1600m

Gibbons gets the chance to start his day off on the right foot, getting the mount on highly fancied James Richard, and, despite last effort, is more than capable of winning this one here today. Last start can be forgiven due to a poor ride by the jockey, but, is better for the experience. Significant upgrade in the saddle to last race and a slight decrease in the quality of the field. One to beat. Belinda Hodder and Tangarra Express are the next best here, and, are definitely knocking on the door. If James Richard doesn’t reach its potential here, then Tangarra Express is every chance here. Outside value here is on Ausbred Trump, not overly great on prior efforts, but, has shown flashes of late speed, and only needs to harness it at the right time and it could be right there.

Top Pick – James Richard
Next Best – Tangarra Express
Longshot – Ausbred Trump

TOP PICK

Race 2 – Taree Cup Calcutta 18/8 3-year-old Maiden 1000m

Gibbons look well on pace for an early back to back race double. Bill’N’Ted is head and shoulders above this field and should find little opposition unless a competitor has a career race. Raay Of Time could find its best here and does loom as the biggest threat here, but, Bill’N’Ted should be too good here. Top chance.

Top Pick – Bill’N’Ted
No next pick – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 3 – The Kosciuszko 13 October BM59 Handicap 1000m

Aaron Bullock should figure prominently here on Flash Stinger. Flash Stinger is yet to show it’s best, but, we are due for it today. Taree has some easy on the eye short priced runners today, and Flash Stinger makes up the top three. Should be an uptempo five furlong dash, with Flash Stinger needing to do some work early to avoid getting caught wide, small field of runners with a majority wanting to be on pace. Expect a bold showing. Main danger in this race will come in the form of the class dropping My Little Racer, who has been given every opportunity here. SHould be in the minors at worst.

Top Pick – Flash Stinger
No next pick – No third dividend

TOP PICK

Race 4 – Taree Crazy Day 18/8 Maiden Plate 1300m

Mud Wasp is one to watch out for here, yet to break its maiden, but, was impressive when grabbing third last time out. Expected to roll forward early from a good inside draw and, if it can hit the front, could prove too hard to track down. Cabriere is listed as the favourite to win this one at the time of writing, but, it hasn’t done a great deal to like, the only real tick in the box it gets here today is the fact that it is against a field that isn’t overly talented. Has its chance to prove its doubters wrong here today. Value runner here is in the long, long odds hopeful, I Want, currently available at 101:1. Dropping in class significantly and still needs to step up a bit in order to get amongst the winners here, the gelding has the ability, it just hasn’t shown it yet.

Top Pick – Mud Wasp
Next Best – Cabriere
Longshot – I Want

TOP PICK

Race 5 – Adrian Owen Vet Class 1 Handicap 1250m

This one is probably the most difficult race of the day, as there is a lot of open chances in this one. The expectation of many horses in this one is that they can hold their consistency, only one of them has shown some form of consistency and that is the Hull ridden, Titus. Titus has been in the minors in all of its last four starts and is knocking on the door of a win, and looking well placed against this rather untalented field. Speed should be genuine which suits Titus. The next best here is High Rush, who has drawn well and, is coming in with a winning horse and jockey combination from a previous race. Expect a bold showing. The value horse of the race here is Better Not Fly, only real knock against it here is the rise in class, and, if it is up to the task today – could cause the upset. One to watch.

Top Pick – Titus
Next Best – High Rush
Longshot – Better Not Fly

Top Pick

Race 6 – Fly Pelican BM58 Handicap 1250m

Another race, with another short priced selection, as mentioned previously, Taree today, maps very well for short priced runners – and Peyton Place is on different here. Jockey and horse combined for a win in this class, over this distance at this track, and are looking very poised to repeat that again here. Bullock has some good rides today – and this one rates as his best for the day. Doesn’t have to do too much to beat a field that lacks top end speed. Toast is the danger horse here, Graham has ridden Toast to a minor in four of his last four starts on the horse and will be looking to make that leap forward here today. Toast has the ability to win, will just need a bit of luck to beat the favourite. Best value runner here is definitely Wongur with Belinda Hodder in the saddle. The odds may be a little overs for what this horse represents, class drop and a jockey with a good strike rate at the moment, hard to look past.

Top Pick – Peyton Place
Next Best – Toast
Longshot – Wongur

TOP PICK

Race 7 – Taree Cup Prelude BM70 Handicap 1600m

Marathon is a real danger horse here, dropping significantly in class, and, rates highly for this one. Last race can be forgiven when getting too far back and not getting into it, Hull will look to ride a little more forward here today, and make a move a bit earlier than Jay Ford did last up. If Hull can get a performance from the horse similar to two starts back, Marathon will be finishing too quickly for this field. Lady Evelyn is the next best – and it is another Gibbons runner here. While not the top pick, will be definitely competing for this one at the end and must be included in all exotics. Has a great turn of foot and, if Gibbons can hit the switch, it could give him enough to win this. Best value runner here is in Chalcedony impressive winner last start over ten furlongs, and, is dropping down slightly in distance, and up in grade, has a task ahead, but, previous efforts indicate a rise in form.

Top Pick – Marathon
Next Best – Lady Evelyn
Longshot – Chalcedony
