Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Canterbury

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns after a little break. We have a few competitive races at Canterbury today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – EVEREST CARNIVAL HANDICAP 1100m

Really interesting and competitive opening race here with Hugh Bowman having a slight edge here on Wagner. The Godolphin runner is going to be hard to beat here. Jumping fresh today, but, looked impressive over distance before going on spell. Bowman adds an extra element to Wagner here and will be able to get the best out of the horse. Clear danger horse here is Vendome. James McDonald has been riding well since returning from h is suspension, and, has a very big chance to kick his Canterbury campaign off with a winner. Another horse from Kiwi sire O’Reilly, who has produced quite a few winners this season can add another one here with Vendome. At this range, you can never look past a Nicconi horse, and we have one i this race in Nicco Lad. Coming in after a spell, and, was racing well prior to that, grabbing two minor placings. Expected to go well again here today.

Top Pick – Wagner
Next Best – Vendome
Longshot – Nicco Lad

TOP PICK

Race 2 – TAB HANDICAP 1100m

This one looks to be a bit of a swing here, but, Ambleve ran impressively on debut, coming from eighth to storm home to second – only issue is that on the day, Pippie was just too good. This field has some that will look to get to the lead, but, if Ambleve can reproduce that run from its debut, it can swoop here. Right in this. Call Me Royal may have been the top choice here if not for the dodgy gate draw, but, has the early speed to overcome this and get into a favourable position. A win wouldn’t shock here. Bring The Magic is the next selection here, with the top pick being of longshot value – Bring The Magic could be the value horse. While it may be the less favoured of the two Waller runners here, it has the most upside as Press Box hasn’t been impressive at all, and was spelled after a very disappointing fifth. Bring The Magic can roll forward form the inside draw and get to the lead. Will need to show it can finish a race here today.

Top Pick – Ambleve
Next Best – Call Me Royal
Longshot/Value – Bring The Magic

TOP PICK

Race 3 – #THERACES HANDICAP 2700m

Only staying test of the meet here, and Segenhoe looks like it will be too hard to beat here. Dropping significantly in class, untested at this range, but, failed to strike on two occasions at the track, finds the going easier today and should be in the mix. All Cash is another that should be right in this one. Winner at track and class, but, having its first true staying test today, going over 2500m for the first time in its career. One to watch. Everly Girl is the danger horse here, greaat value and proven winner at range previously. Griesdale scored a nice winner yesterday, and, can replicate that success here on a horse at good odds that has a true chance.

Top Pick – Segenhoe
Next Best – All Cash
Longshot – Everly Girl

TOP PICK

Race 4 – TAB REWARDS HANDICAP 1900m

Scratches looks the one to beat in this contest. Running over the right distance today, that it has a solid strike rate over (3 2-0) and finds a beatable field today. Drawn well and will use the rail run in order to get to the lead or close to. Can win this. The next best here is Makdanife, has been there abouts this prep and is dropping in class to get this ever elusive win. Came on strong last race over a shorter distance and the extra furlong and a half is a big plus here. One of the chances. Grand Soleil is another that can’t be looked past here, impressive winner last start, and looked like it wanted to keep going, gets its chance today with a longer trip and must be included.

Top Pick – Scratches
Next Best – Makdanife
Longshot – Grand Soleil

TOP PICK

Race 5 – RIBCHESTER NEW TO DARLEY HANDICAP 1550m

Falcon Island was an impressive winner last start when sweeping over the top of Gauguin to score over this distance at this track. Gets a chance to double up on that performance going against Gauguin again today. If Falcon Island doesn’t finsish as fast as he did last start then Gauguin will ahve every chance in this one as it will look to get to the lead early again and stay there. Apart from Falcon Island, there is only one other late finisher that could threaten Gauguin, and that is Melbarra Star, who retains jockey from last start winning effort. These three horses at the top rated for this race and could produce a healthy trifecta.

Top Pick – Falcon Island
Next Best – Gauguin
Longshot – Melbarra Star.

TOP PICK

Race 6 – ATC HONG KONG TOUR SPRINT 1200m

Esperance is the one to back here. Last start coming off a spell finished a respectable second, and will be fitter for that run here today. Has the quicker closing sectionals in this race and retains jockey from first-up effort. Expect a bold run here today. Metamorphic won impressively last start and there is nothing to suggest that an effort like that can’t be reproduced here again today. Winner at distance, class and track and will be hard to keep out again here today. Falster is stepping up in class today, but, first up run last effort was eye catching to say the least, digging deep to hold the lead over the straight, if Falster can get a good start again today – could be hard to track down.

Top Pick – Esperance
Next Best – Metamorphic
Longshot – Falster

TOP PICK

Race 7 – AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB HANDICAP 1200m

Madam Rouge is a strong chance here, winner second up previously, drawn a sticky barrier here, but, nothing early speed can’t overcome. James McDonald will be looking to get the closing win here on another of his top chances on the day. Yet to be tested at this range, but, win prior to spell suggested it could go on with the extra furlong. Class dropper Tarabai must be included here. Running second up today, winner second up previously and is a winner at class and distance as well. One of the top hopes. Red Chandelier has drawn a gun run on the rail and is yet to be out of a placing when first-up. Winner first up previously as well as being a winner at distance. Fresh here and must be respected.

Top Pick – Madam Rouge
Next Best – Tarabai
Longshot – Red Chandelier

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Tamworth

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns after a little break. We have a few competitive races at Tamworth today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – TAB.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE 1000m

Due to a bevvy of early morning scratchings, the door has been left wide open for Maui Princess to get the win here. Best form, top rated jockey and drawn well for this one and will be hard to beat. Watch Dat Stinger is the best of the rest here, showed something when running on fourth on debut, and, a run similar to that could be enough here at a soft Tamworth track. Onyar rounds out the rest of the chances here in what really reads as a one horse race. Onyar has the draw and the in form Bogenhuber in the saddle. One to watch today.

Top Pick – Maui Princess
Next best – Watch Dat Stinger
Longshot – Onyar

TOP PICK

Race 2 – CELLARBRATIONS TAMWORTH MAIDEN 1400m

Londinium should be able to round out an early morning favourite double in the opening two races here again after a bevvy of early morning scratchings. Will need sharp improvement on last start ninth, but, is getting the benefit of the doubt here again today and should be able to best this rather soft field. Le Faberge is the next best here and is a real hopeful in this one if the favourite has another disappointing run. Two starts back ran an eye catching second, and, anything close to that effort will be enough here today. One of the chances. Night Manager rounds out the hopefuls in this one. Despite there being a short priced favourite, in today’s conditions, those that run better on squishy ground tend to do better and Night Manager is one of those, despite the poor record thus far, must be included.

Top Pick – Londinium
Next Best – Le Faberge
Longshot – Night Manager

TOP PICK

Race 3 – CARLTON MID CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1600m

La Biere Choisie has an incredibly difficult name for the race caller, but, has the best chance here for bettors today. Ran well on softer going previously, retains jockey from strong showing on soft over similar distance, will be appreciative of the extra half furlong here today. One to beat. Our Winnie can’t be looked over either, impressive type with Ben Looker in the saddle. Will be right in this. Emvepee is one that could upset here today. Winner on soft previously and shows a good turn of foot only when the going is more lenient, a win certainly wouldn’t shock here.

Top Pick – La Biere Choisie
Next Best – Our Winnie
Longshot – Emvepee

TOP PICK

Race 4 – SHAY BRENNAN TAMWORTH RUSH 1000m

Aimalac Lillie is a significant dropper in class today and has the top jockey for this race on board. Ben Looker won’t want to miss this opportunity despite their being stiff competition in Just A Bullet, who happens to be our next best – and these two paired in a quinella, could be on the money today. Mambo Fever is another that shouldn’t be discredited either, only wins on heavy or soft, and gets its chance today to end a long drought of two years without a win.

Top Pick – Aimalac Lillie
Next Best – Just A Bullet
Longshot – Mambo Fever

TOP PICK

Race 5 – COREYS CATERING BM 58 HANDICAP 1200m

Epic Event is one of the top rated runners in this race, and, the odds are surprising somewhat today. Coming in fresh today, and has placed twice on three first up runs, has the ability to beat this field at its best. I Wear Prada was an impressive winner over this distance last start and, gets its shot at repeating that again today against a field that lacks top end speed. Could run on the pace today, and, has the closing sectionals to suggest it can best this field. Balantes is an outside hopeful here. Cumberland has ridden previously and, despite running in fifth last start, it was impressive when cutting through traffic to close late, bit more luck today and could be right there running lighter.

Top Pick – Epic Event
Next Best – I Wear Prada
Longshot – Balantes

TOP PICK

Race 6 – THE DURI PEAK BM 66 HANDICAP 1400m

Emily’s Song steps up slightly in class, but, previous runs show that there is nothing to suggest that this should have a negative effect today. Impressive second over six furlongs at Scone last up and looked like it wanted more – gets that today and should be right in it. Prontissimo is the next best here and is another that looks more suited to seven furlongs. Has the natural ability to win this, just needs to find its best today. Royal Villa is one that has won at this track previously and has been tested at this range, at its best, it has the best closing furlong speed in the race and if in cover, can come on strong late. Must be included.

Top Pick – Emily’s Song
Next Best – Prontissimio
Longshot – Royal Villa

TOP PICK

Race 7 – GOODWIN KENNY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000m

Going with the best ride for Graham here today in Lookin’ Alive. Impressive since returning from spell and can get another win here today. Has been consistent since return and being third up today is ready to peak. Social is the next best here, and is undefeated on first up efforts. If residual fitness is there, nothing to suggest that it can’t maintain that 100% first up record. Golden Legacy may not be a longshot, but, it is great value with Ben Looker in the saddle here today. Ben Looker is yet to lose on Golden Legacy going 2/2 starts, has every chance for the combined hat-trick here today.

Top Pick – Lookin’ Alive
Next Best – Social
Longshot/Value – Golden Legacy

TOP PICK

Bet Chimps Punters Guide – Dubbo

Newcastle jockey Robert Thorton - by Citrus Zest via Wikimedia

By Citrus Zest [Creative Commons], via Wikimedia Commons

The Punters Guide returns after a little break. We have a few competitive races at Dubbo today – lets pick the diamonds from the quartz. Our last guide can be found HERE

Race 1 – KENNARDS MINE SITE CG&E MAIDEN 1120m

Track conditions out west are not great, with a churned heavy 10. The opening race does feature some runners who are tried and tested on a heavy track, and the one that has shown the most promise is Matchfox. The classy Foxwedge runner has been there abouts at this range and has placed all three attempts on a heavy surface. Can make that step today. You can never look past a Your Song gelding on debut, in The Nutter, from what has been seen, this horse has a very powerful gait and shouldn’t be too encumbered by the track conditions today. Jake Pracey-Holmes has the value runner of the day here on What Diddy Say. Third and a fourth last two respectively, main question mark here is can he handle to the heavy.

Top Pick – Matchfox
Next Best – The Nutter
Longshot – What Diddy Say

TOP PICK

Race 2 – KENNARDS HIRE DUBBO F&M MAIDEN 1120m

In Good Health maps as the one to beat here and, the market reflects this. Last race was super impressive when flashing home for a second. Has a tougher assignment here today, especially to replicate that run on today’s churned surface. Will need to find that next gear to get it done here. Arnault is another to watch here today. Running in good form and will look to get to the front on a track that will have a front running bias. Expected to go well here. Have to include Maniototo in this one, the runner out of Street Cry should be able to make the step up in these conditions, drawn well and will look to sit off the lead horses. If the favourite gets into trouble, Maniototo could easily capitalise.

Top Pick – In Good Health
Next Best – Arnault
Longshot – Maniototo

TOP PICK

Race 3 – KENNARDS MINE LIGHTING MAIDEN 1420m

Stomp should have won its last race, but, ultimately fell short, has an easier group here today, biggest question mark for the mare here is the track conditions, untested on heavy. If she can find her best here, she will be hard to beat. Another untested on heavy here, is Gaze Beyond, interesting type that can hit the line hard as seen in last run, when coming from near last to finish a close second. One to include. Elusive Valley is the value runner in this race here, can mix form at times, but, in what can be an open affair here with a lot of midfield and back markers having a tough run due to track conditions, if Elusive Valley can produce the fastest of the back bunch, could get the win here.

Top Pick – Stomp
Next Best – Gaze Beyond
Longshot – Elusive Valley

TOP PICK

Race 4 – KENNARDS NEW ZEALAND BENCHMARK 66 1620m

Not For Export has been tested seven times on heavy and struck a place on five occasions. Last start can be forgiven when boxed out and faded on the straight. Not For Export will look to drop back early and then come on late, has the ability here. Assurity drops significantly in class today, gets the hot provincial jockey, Greg Ryan in the saddle, winner on heavy tracks previously and maps well for this one, could be the one to beat here. Another long value runner here for Jake Pracey-Holmes in Amare, who is coming in wtih the strongest form lines, but, is yet to test a heavy track. Unknown quantity here today, that, at its best, could upset here.

Top Pick – Not For Export
Next Best – Assurity
Longshot – Amare

TOP PICK

Race 5 – XXXX GOLD CUP SPRINT PRELUDE 1120m

Joey’s Destiny and Greg Ryan are going to be the benchmark in this race. Will look to push forward early on and dictate the pace of the race, if Ryan can get to the front in this one, will prove hard to track down on Joey’s Destiny. One to beat here. Kenny Succeed is one that can never not be counted. Has exceptional late speed, and will be challenging for the lead, the type of horse that can go gate to post. This one isn’t much of a longshot, or value runner, but, must be included, Molasses is coming in on the back of a poorly run fourth after an impressive win with Cavallo in the saddle. Can run midfield and use good turn of foot to win this. Must be included.

Top Pick – Joey’s Destiny
Next Best – Kenny Succeed
Must be included – Molasses

TOP PICK

Race 6 – NZ RACING & RUGBY BENCHMARK 58 1120m

Billy Bent Ear was an impressive winner last start, and, there is nothing to suggest it can not back that performance up here, retaining winning jockey here and at suitable distance as well as track conditions. Will take some beating here. The Arnold Schwarzenegger favourite here, Get To The Chopper is the next best, dropping in class significantly here today, and has the form to pull this one off. Expect a bold run. Little Bertie must be included. Retains winning jockey from last effort, and, going into only it’s third race in a beatable benchmark 58, if it can win here today – it is a must in the blackbook.

Top Pick – Billy Bent Ear
Next Best – Get To The Chopper
Must be included – Little Bertie

TOP PICK

Race 7 – NZ RACING & RUGBY BENCHMARK 58 1120m

Hoges is the one you want to be on here and is great value currently at time of writing. Trialed nicely behind Tim’s Principal over 900m in preparation for this race, and, last competitive race can be dismissed when copping interference being blocked for a run and fading out. Time before that super impressive win against a more competitive field than today’s. Top chance. Tibidabo is the next best here and going to be one of the main challengers to Hoges, may have even gotten the nod if not for poor history when running from wide barriers. Dropping in class and will have an edge, but, will need to find its best to win here. Eyesaw is another that must be included here. Good first up record, will look to run on the pace, and, will have every chance on this track.

Top Pick – Hoges
Next Best – Tibdabo
Longshot – Eyesaw

TOP PICK

Race 8 – DUBBO TOYOTA DUBBO CUP PRELUDE 1420m

Wild Cavalier is the picture of consistency at the moment, doing everything right, except for winning. Has every chance here today to convert that good form against a softer field than last. Will look to get near the lead and run on the pace. Can go on with it today. Bank On Henry is the next best here, coming in on the back of a sound performance with jockey, running in second on heavy track, and, finds a less competitive field than last. Can go one better. Moonlight Spy is the one that is a real dark horse in this race. Lightly exposed to the track, running here once for a place, last start second at long odds was an impressive showing, and, anything close to that here could be enough to win.

Top Pick – Wild Cavalier
Next Best – Bank On Henry
Longshot – Moonlight Spy

TOP PICK

Race 9 – DUBBO CHRISTMAS TWILIGHTS CLASS 2 1420m

Outta Space is dropping in class today and must be respected. Beaten a better field than is on offer here today – especially after all the top level talent being scratched this morning. Sergy Linsyy is always a difficult customer when it comes to closing out race meets, and this won’t be any different on this talented gelding. Main threat here is in Sure Shot Sheza. Drawn well and will look to run just off the pace setters here. Has a good turn of foot and will be right there throughout. Longshot value here goes to Tokyo Bullet, who has drawn well and will be able to run just off the pace in what maps as a slower race than expected now with the speedsters being scratched, which suits Tokyo Bullet.

Top Pick – Outta Space
Next Best – Sure Shot Sheza
Longshot – Tokyo Bullet

TOP PICK

Devonport

Race 4

With there being a bevvy of races on today – and one meet not having a good amount of standouts, we are going to do something a little different today as opposed to the Punters Guide, and list a few races with runners that tickle our fancy here, and the first cab off the rank is Devonport, where we are going to go with the impressive Blackberry Rose. Main concern here for Blackberry Rose and Craig Newitt is to not let Emsgem get too far ahead as Froggy did last time against this horse when riding Emceeoh. Blackberry Rose does its best when running on from the back of the pack and today’s race, shouldn’t be any different. Blackberry Rose will need to run closer today to get the win as Emsgem will look to bolt to the lead and not give it up. Another danger is Pontypaul who drops in class, but, Emsgem and Blackberry Rose are the top two chances in this one.

SELECTION

Race 7

Anthony Darmanian is great in Tasmania when it comes to the races after number five. This one is race seven, and he has the best of the day at Devonport in Husson Park, a runner with strong lineage from Husson. Came up against a horse that was in its own element last start in Red Pearl who destroyed the field, today’s field is a bit better of a match up for Husson Park today. Coming in on the back of a first and a second over last two respectively and yet to be lower than second at this track. Maps well for this race and has the best early speed for the short trip – will just need show a bit more fight down the straight here today.

SELECTION

Wyong

Race 1

Opening race here at Wyong maps as a two horse duel between Homework, who is likely to lead, and Elaborate who is likely to stalk. The edge here goes to Homework, who has looked better over the longer trip – finishing second over 1500m, against a better field, where Elaborate finished third against a weaker field, with a better jockey last start. Today, Homework has drawn well and will take up the lead again and challenge the rest to catch up – which if the run is similar to last, they won’t be able to. Jay Ford is going for his third ride on Homework today – and the two work well together, will be difficult for any other runner to win if Homework gets the lead.

SELECTION

Nowra

Race 4

Interesting little race here with a lot of attention going towards Chad Lever and Highly Desired, however, not enough is going towards Atomic Blast, who ran on gamely last start and gets an upgrade in the saddle to the red hot, Kayla Nisbet. Had every chance in the world last start to win over a shorter distance, but, the shortness of the trip was the issue, as it would have gotten there with an extra half furlong, almost gets that full extension here and will be competitive once again. Nowra has a very long straight, with a 400m line, which really helps Atomic Blast here who is over the odds.

SELECTION
